It's another indicator though of just how well Sam done in January and identified weak spots.

Kelly has been playing excellent at centre-back and it would have been harsh on him to be replaced with Tomkins (as Sakho is first name in defense).

A little like the PVA/Schlupp situation - why buy 2 starting left-backs? Well since January, Schlupp started with PVA out injured, then PVA started with Schlupp out injured, then Schlupp for PVA and now finally they are both fit.

Now we don't have Tomkins but for 5 games we can be confident with Kelly/Sakho. If one gets a red card then Delaney goes in there.

If this was under Pardew we'd be sweating every time Dann or Delaney went down because our only other cover (Kelly) would be playing at left back.

Having just seen the tackle, I would not criticise the ref at all, it was 100% red. You really must start to learn to disagree with the ref from time to time, it is getting boring.

I've even seen quite a few Liverpool fans say it should/could have been a red card. Trolley as usual is talking garbage.

The one thing that we will never know is how Pardew would have strengthened the team in January if he had still been here as he would obviously have targeted a left back for starters

True and I believe you are right about the left-back.

I know Pardew gets pilloried for some of his signings but he did sign Townsend,Cabaye and Benteke and they have been major influences in recent weeks, albeit under Allardyce.

He was on SSN the other day whinging about not being given to the transfer window. Blamed all his woes on not having a change to prove himself in January. I'm sceptical, not like it would've been his first transfer window at the club...

I doubt whether Pardew's record in the transfer market was any worse than many others in terms of the players that he bought as they were a mixture of successes and failures.

His problem seemed to be an inability to get the best out of the players that he did buy

This. Pardew may have bought these players (Benteke, Cabaye and Townsend) but under him they were not playing half as well as they are now under Sam. What's to say the same wouldn't have happened with the players he bought in January.

And it might have had a bit more prominence on MoTD.

Perhaps we should have tweeted on mass, asking why it was not shown. Thought the whole coverage was poor but I do like Danny Murphy

Good job we never got to find out. What is without doubt is the deterioration in fitness and professionalism in the squad and him actually. And as mentioned failing to get consistent performances from recent big transfers.

He was going to get the sack sooner or later and for this reason alone before his transfer record. This was obvious in April 2016, May 2016, after Burnley, Swansea, Hull away and Man it's at home. Makes me shudder knowing that Parish said he might have state if we drew vs Man Utd. In a way thank f*** he did pull MacArthur off for Fraizer Campbell.

That substitution was the exact moment I realised he didn't know what he was doing. He had my total support till then but after that I wanted him gone.

Seems to me his main issue really was keeping players fit, he just didn't think it was important - he probably would have made some decent January signings, they'd have made an impact for a while until the shocking coaching techniques had time to take effect then they would have looked useless too.

I said at the time that I thought that was a superb transfer window and never backed down on that. I was worried about Townsend lasting about 2 games before he went down the loo. But this is nail on the head, Pardew could've signed Lionel Messi but he'd have played him in the central defence and subbed him for Bakary Sako at half time.

I'm all for going for a win in the majority of home games but it's madness to think Pardew thought that was the best approach against Man Utd.

If you look at the fixtures we have now, you couldn't of blamed Sam for wanting to beat Leicester so badly after getting back to 2-2 that he gambled and pushed everyone forward. Instead, he respected the point.

Now that point looks massive with us sitting on 38. But like I say, with minimal winnable games left and fan pressure, you wouldn't of blamed Sam for risking losing that one.

Man Utd however was months ago and Pardew must have known that getting several draws would have given us a good points total even if we wanted more wins. A point against United and it may have saved his job but he got carried away and went for it. Madness.
