That's what I trying to say. It's not everyday we spend 32m on a striker. He's so frustrating to watch at times. Yes we need to play to his strengths but you can't tell him every time his been on the field this season his given everything.

When he was at Villa he used to run with the ball. Here he never does. He seems to be risk averse. He should pick the ball up in the middle then run at goal and SHOOT. I don't get why he doesn't.

Over lunch today I overheard comment about Christian considering his future. Yes please in the context of his comparing himself to Everton's Lukaku, and appreciating that we need him to perform at that level. There have been promising signs. Would like him to be worth £40m at the end of this season rather than £15m. The ball is in his court - to be put into the backs of opponent's goals. COYP

My opinion of Benteke is similar to that of what I think of Cabaye. He's not the player I thought he would be. I don't think the service into him has been good enough, but he doesn't make things happen enough.

Not seen anything like that wince he's been here. Apart from when he pressured and robber Forster against Southampton? Or when a penalty at Watford nicking the ball from Gomes? Or should have had a penalty against Swansea after getting between defender and goalkeeper?

i think he is getting the ball on his feet a lot more in recent games than the predictable lobs in to the air which are very easy to defend against ,the premier league this season is a much higher standard than when he was at villa as well, but i also have questioned his level of fitness he often seemed to be gasping for breath a lot , but that has improved as well, i just wish he was a bit more direct, he is still our best striker ,we should bring f.f.s back and get him to teach him how be more nasty in a game christian benteke is just a bit to nice for a striker in this cut throat league Edited by miss smith (01 Mar 2017 8.08am)

Benteke wins more than his fare share of balls either in the air or using his chest and feet.

That dubious distinction obviously goes to Bumfluff. Then what about Akinbyi, Adebayor, Sanogo? Campbell has no shortage of work rate but I wouldn't pick him in front of Benteke. Thanks for reminding me, yes Bumfluff, how funny that players like him get easily forgotten!

You can't deny he doesn't give everything he's got. First half, chased well plus had a good effort on his left foot that was saved, and he was a little unlucky to be adjudged to have handballed in the build up. He pulled off his marker for a free header, could have done better with that one but his movement was good. He also had two more headed chances, both coming when beating Boro defenders in the air. Tough to score from either but he won his battle with the centre halves. Second half, he continued working even as the team dropped deep and left him isolated. Created a lovely chance for himself after Wilf's cross field ball, denied by a last ditch tackle. Decent effort from a tough angle from a corner as well. Set up an excellent two on two with Townsend but didn't get a return pass. Tried a 1-2 with Wilf in the area, which didn't come off. He was also noticeably annoyed with himself with that one. He was involved plenty across the 90 minutes, got himself into positions and had some good efforts on goal. I can deny he's not giving everything because neither you or I have any idea about what his 'everything' is. Just because he's not running around like a headless chicken doesn't mean he's being lazy. I'm focusing on the impact he actually had on the game, which is more than most Palace strikers have on games in the Premier League.
