This takes intelligence to a whole new level on this forum.

Is this the type of joke that cracks you up and you make every day?

You are very disrespectful to a contributor of such wisdom and knowledge. It's pretty clear that opportunities in life have passed him by and he yearns acceptance and praise of his undoubted knowledge on forums, as he cannot apply them in real life.

I don't yearn anything. Really, not on this forum. And if I do want to be proven right.....don't we all actually?

I think you'll find that formation was an expedient, based on the players available, and won't be seen very often. Expect 4-4-2- or 4-4-3 when Zaha is back. If we sign PVA, expect to see Schlupp and him on the left and Zaha on the right, with the real question being, where does Townsend fit in?

Snuggled up on the bench in between Mutch and a.n.other....

ready to sprint a few times for a ball going out for a goal kick in the last 5 mins.

Or in a prosperous suburb of Newcastle.

I agree with you on the 4-4-2 but please explain our we can play 4-4-3 unless we play without a keeper, if we can get away with it i'm up for it maybe we can win a game or two with 12.

4-3-3 would work best

Use Puncheon as a playmaker in front of defense, like Pirlo played when he got older or like Kroos played for Real Madrid. Most teams usually play the defensive midfielder right in front of the defence and the rather more technical CM a little above him. But the defensive midfielder doesn't really take the ball out of his own half as he should. I've noticed that it's better to use the slightly slow, aging clear mind playmaker there. Being the holding midfielder is not that much about pace, but about covering space and closing down passing possibilities.

The reason why I'd play Punceon lower is because McArthur has proven to be a box-to-box goal scorer (at least this season and he has the momentum). So I'd have him appear behind Benteke and Cabaye in the opposing box on Palace's attacks in order to finalize.

Henessey/Mandanda
?, Tomkins, Dann, van Aanholt
Puncheon
Zaha, McArthur, Cabaye, Townnsend/Schlupp
Benteke

Kind of like a 4-3-3 if you count McArthur, Puncheon and Cabaye to be the midfield.Having Remy instead of Cabaye would be too risky, as Cabaye does run, press and closes spaces, while a striker is doesn't know how to close spaces so well. Maybe Remy instead of Benteke.

How about these players instead of Jenkinson?

van der Wiel- lost his place in Fenerbahce after being brought in from PSg on a free transfer. The Turkish manager is insane preferring the Turkish Ozbayrakli there, I rate van der Wiel among the best 5 right defenders in Europe. He was absolutely spectacular for PSG and Ajax. A little underwhelming for the national team, but still....

Figueiras- was very appreciated in Sevilla, but left because he wanted to play and Mariano (who is equally amazing) was playing ahead of him. He is now with Olympiakos where he is the starting right back and doing great (1 goal and 3 assists in the league), but the Greeks couldn't refuse an offer of around 2,5-3 million from a Premier League team if it wanted him. That's much less than what Jenkinson would cost and I dare say for more quality

Ricardo Esgaio- this guy would be very cheap, Sporting would sell him for 1-2 million. He has been 3rd choice so far, promoted to second choice now that the old J. Perreira has left. He's still young. I know him since he was one of the best right midfielders for Sporting B. Didn't manage to get into the first team as a midfielder because there was tremendous competition, but was further trained as a right back and got into the Portugal U20 and U21 team as such. Watched him in the U21 Euro 2 years ago and he was amazing for Portugal. Him and Raphael Guerreiro really pushed the game up for the Portuguese. Raphael Guerreiro is in Dortmund with Borussia, someone should take this guy too. Now is the time, he has had 2-3 years to settle as a right back, he learnt what was necessary defensively.

Smolnikov- now Zenit usually sells for very big numbers, but lately they have had some financial trouble and have only brought in low cost players. They brought in another Russian right back and the starting one this half of season had been Anyukov. I'm not very sure how the manager Lucescu rates Smolnikov because he was also injured, but if he has recovered and is not in the manager's plans he should be picked up by a good side fast. He was one of the best right backs in the Champions League and in European football in the past 5 years.

Yedlin- now if you have some cash to splash this is your player. He has played great every time I watched him. Could have gotten him for 4-5 million in the summer. Now I think he'd cost 7-8 million. Still, Benitez rates Anita higher and mostly plays him as right back, but Yedlin has 5 assists and 1 goal in the Championship this season. And he's a right back!! Him and van Aanholt saved Sunderland's ass last season, together with Borini and Defore. This season Sunderland suffers tremendously without him
