Sorry, but the JS camp keep coming up with this claim - on what basis do you make it? There's no evidence to back it up - in fact in Speroni's last 2 League games we conceded 6 goals. If you like Speroni more than Hennessey then that's fine, but don't try and justify it with erroneous claims (unless you've interviewed the defence and they've told you this!). classic example on saturday when the ball came over the defense and they moved up and hennessy just stood there, if carroll or someone had been quick enough, they'd have scored then. You can argue that Delaney could/should have cleared up but then thats miscommunication - the Goalkeeper should dominate his box. WH can't dominate his boots. Give confidence to the defense? if we, the fans turn up and he instills no confidence in us, god only knows what the defenders must be thinking. Edited by paperhat (16 Jan 2017 9.10am)

For starters, his age. Not so important with a keeper I'll grant you but the fact he hasn't played a competitive league match since God only knows when! There comes a time when you have to let go. He played about a week ago in our FA Cup game with Bolton. Kept a clean sheet I might add.....
Yannick Bolasie - Glenn Murray - Wilfried Zaha Most exciting attacking trio at Selhurst Park in years. |

One of his weaknesses is NOT dominating his area with his strength being his shot stopping and his good distribution with his kicking. I for one won't be surprised if he dons the gloves against Bolton but will be surprised if he displaces Hennessey for the next league game.Time will tell !

Edited by paperhat (16 Jan 2017 9.10am) OK, that's saying that from your viewpoint WH doesn't instill confidence in his defence. That's not the same as proving that JS does. When he last played in the league - last day of last season at Southampton - he gifted them the lead by flapping at a cross. WE then collapsed and let in 4 in total. Can't see any difference there. Perhaps in the summer we need to let Speroni retire, sell WH and SM and get in a new keeper so we can stop all these repetitive arguments.

SM deserves a chance to prove that he is the top keeper his reputation tells us he is.

Exactly SM has played 9 games... thats nothing. no time to settle at all. He came back from poor fitness/injury, played 9 games and got injured. WE can hardly decide he is poor based on that.

We've seen enough to conclude he is very much a "Line keeper" and short stopper and not someone who comes for crosses and dominates his box.

We need match winners/savers. Jules consistently had one in him per game, whilst Hennessy has managed only a handful in his entire tenure between the sticks for us. I saw a comment about Pardew being a naive WH lover, well, I'm pretty sure he signed Steeeeeeeeve because he was in fact quite the opposite. Anyway, if its between WH and Jules, Jules has to be given a go now. I actually think this cup replay may help us, gives Sam a 'free' game to try whatever.
