Murray would have gotten plenty of game time last season, Jedinak under Allardyce or Pulis would probably still be an essential part of the team. Gayle was a bit of an enigma, so I could kind of see the logic in selling him for a good price. Murray himself said, more than once, he wanted to move to guarantee more game time. He said the same at Bournemouth too. He would not have been happy unless he was guaranteed regular starts. That was not going to happen. It didn't happen at Bournemouth either. Jedi had been poor for two seasons when he was sold. The mistake was not replacing him in midfield. We also were short of real leaders on the pitch, and that has been a problem for AP elsewhere.
If you come to a fork in the road, take it. |

You don't make those decisions, luckily. The price you're quoting is £8mil for someone who isn't going to be worth that. It's not that Pardew sold Jedi, it's that he didn't replace him properly, although you could make a case for too many of that guard being sold, but then again the replacements come into question. In fact all of Pardew's recruits should be questioned. Acquiescence top of the character requirements. Woodman and Salako, tick. Millen, you a yes man or afraid your job's in danger if you challenge super al? Check, you're safe as well. What a joke. Club run for Alan's job security. Utter farce. Glad it's all over. Start being professional again. How did you replace properly why Jedi brought to the team though? In my mind there has been one player in my 30 plus years that could stand up to Jedi and that is Geoff Thomas. Players like these just don't come around often enough to be replaceable.

Anyone remember all the posts on here saying he needed to be dropped, how slow he was and how his passing was too poor for the type of football we wanted to play. Blimey, suddenly he's our saviour. As many have said on here, wasn't wrong to sell him, was wrong not to replace him with a better defensive midfielder.

Look up his record in the last two seasons he was with us. He was poor before AP showed up. Letting him go without replacing him properly was the big problem. Just because he was a great leader for us, does not make him good enough to play. If that were true, then Bryan Robson would still be United's captain. One of AP's problems was not bringing in players with genuine leadership qualities. I cannot imagine one of AP's signings as captain, even if they are good enough to play regularly.

Jedinak was playing the best football of his career before he went off to play in the Asia Cup. He came back when Pardew had been with the team for a few weeks and never got a good run in the team since. Before Pardew arrived he was statistically one of the top players in Europe.

No. Look it up. He was awesome in 2013-14. Not the next season. He was poor, in a poor start to the season. He then went away, came back and got sent off almost immediately for a deliberate elbow. It didn't get better after that. 2014-15, in the PL before he travelled: p. 18, W 3, D 7, L 8. Without him in the team: p. 14, W 7, D 2, L 5.

You should mention that we were being managed by Warnock, so the losses can't be attributed straight to Jedinak or any other player for that matter. What I remember of that period was Jedinak being one of the few bright sparks, he had the free kick against Liverpool and was banging in the penalties.
