I've never thought of the poppy as a political symbol. A fuss over nothing from FIFA. They should get their own house in order. Edited by blackpalacefan (04 Nov 2016 10.01pm) It's only political if the wearer or non wearer wants to make it political. For everyone else it is a simple symbol of remembrance and carries no political significance whatsoever.

“I think the FA has picked the wrong fight. It is likely to get a fine because of this. Surely all of the money that has been spent on arguments, lawyers and the fine it may get from FIFA would have been much better being donated to the Royal British Legion. It would have done far more good than this needless argument. It has commercialised the poppy more than anything else. This is supposed to be a quiet remembrance, 11 o’clock, two minutes’ silence remembering those that gave their lives, were injured and gave up so much for our freedom, for our freedom of speech” Never thought I'd say this; but Danny Mills has f*cking nailed it.

Tawdry to think a sum of money compensates for slopey shoulders, surely?

I don't think FIFA will even issue a fine if you look at the statement they've made. And if they do you can bet the FA will say, we don't care and we're making a donation of the same amount.

And Wales must be furious as they didn't wear the armbands as they didn't feel the could risk the penalty!

Mclean doesnt help himself though. Turned his back on the English national anthem before a match, chose to play for the republic instead of northern ireland for political reasons and has made no secret of how he feels about the English. Democracy and free expression innit or something. Turns out for some people Northern Ireland is still a big thing, when in fact the reality is probably neither Ireland or the UK really want it.

I think that's kind of true to an extent. However its a big photo opportunity for politicians and has been utilised in some corners of the media as a cause celeb to effectively influence public opinion.

Amazes me that anyone buys The Sun. Andrex is softer and doesn't leave you with ink all over your arse I'd say its unpatriotic to buy The Sun. It parades its national colours, whilst being owned by foreign conglomerate and functions to create discord in UK society.

....and the fines are in! Glad to see that the FA are already working on their appeal, and that the other home nations will probably be appealing too..... hope they all take it to the wire and refuse to pay.
