When fit he could do a job if he doesn't get fired by then. He hasn't played in almost a year (16 mins of PL football or something since last Jan.) There is no way he will be back starting for ages, Chamakh got over his injury nearly 2 months ago and is still not 'match fit' and he was playing regularly last season.

I would say that first, Adebayor hardly merits comparison with Amoebi. Agree that the latter added something off the pitch, but on it Adebayor is worlds better on every possible level. With regard to conditioning, it is not true that you lose it after 29 years old. There's a reason marathon runners continue to set records well into their late 30s and sometimes into their 40s. Sharpness, I agree, he will have lost due to his time out of the game but that is something you can get back. Conditioning, no. If anything, 12 months recovery will provide a platform to get in better shape, once match fit, than he would have been had he been playing. With regard to how quickly he could start playing, you and I don't know. But I'd imagine he'll be thrown into "reserve" games immediately and would be quite capable of contributing off the bench in short order. Needs must, after all. With regard to him being a prick, on past behaviour that is not debatable. He has behaved like one. But people do sometimes change, and when you have the talent Adebayor does it is worth a chance that you can bring out the best in them. Like I said earlier, if Parish and Pards are happy to bring him in then I am too. They've proved to be pretty good judges of what will work for Palace.

I love the fact people are waxing lyrical about how good he is and what a job he will do for us on a 6 month contract but then precede it with `when fit`. He isn't fit. He wont be close to match fit for a long time. So certainly isn't a short term answer.

If Pards is considering signing him to address an immediate need for a short-term answer at striker then I'm more inclined to trust his judgement than yours with regards to how quickly Adebayor will be ready to get on the pitch. Really, you are just spouting uninformed hot air.

Don't you think there is a reason clubs put in intensive fitness regimes when their players come back after a couple of months of break in the summer? Then they play several friendly matches to get players match fit. You really expect Adebayor to be match fit?

My concerns with his attitude are based on essentially gossip, and the fact that spurs wrote off a massive amount of money on him, and seemed adament that he was not welcome anywhere near their first team. Then there's the fact that no one has taken a punt on him, despite being available for over a year But what specifically has he ever actually done wrong?

He played last week Spoke to my source who told me about this 10 days ago, said things are moving forward with Palace initial offer of pay as you ply being thrown back at them, Apprantly its a 12 month contract with the option of Palace to extend it even though Palace still hopeful for a 5 month contract! The other interesting item of information he said was he isn't our first choice !!! If we don't sign our first choice in by the 16th you might see him at the training ground. Oh and Strikers aren't the only position

If the intention is to sign someone who's going to make an impact more or less immediately, I'd humbly suggest that Adebayor isn't the answer.

Well worth a read, particularly if you have been completely sold the Adebayor bad egg line.
Adebayor is free. He's played and scored goals for clubs of the stature of Arsenal, Man City and Real Madrid. Not saying he's my first choice but ruling him out because like countless of other footballers he splashes the cash is quite frankly bizarre. The sad fact is that many footballers do the same. Our Connor wickham splashed out 30k on a bottle of champagne at ocean beach a couple of years ago for instance. The press love footballers and hate them in equal measures. Adebayor has come to represent all that's bad in the game rather than the industry itself being attacked as that's a dull story. He's no angel. But six month contract if there is nobody else is a no-brainer. Edited by laddo (06 Jan 2016 6.31pm)
