This thread is possibly the most depressing one I have ever read on HOL.

There is nothing wrong with being gay, if there were it wouldn't have been around for as long as mindkind. If your deity hadn't wished for there to be gay people he/she/it wouldn't have invented them. Or if you are Darwinist, apparently it's good for society to have gay people.

On the other hand there is massive harm from paedophiles and incestuous relationships, the suffering of people living with this is unimaginable for those that have not.

No parallel, stupid stupid suggestion that there is.

And to say that non-reproductive marriage is somehow a lower order is bizarre. I bet lots of people on this site are on second marriages beyond child bearing age, does that make their marriages relatively unimportant?

If people want to marry a same sex partner, I guess that is because they feel strongly. And if they want to do it in Church presumably they are religious. What more is there to know.

Oh and what the hell is feminisation and how can male same sex marriage represent it? That is of course a contradiction in terms.

Edited by Mapletree (24 May 2015 6.27pm)

Absolutely.
..you are a male and so called straight, imagine then being told you're only allowed to have sex with men, you see women around but you must not touch! everyone should just stop what they are doing and just imagine that for one minute.

Just a quick point, how many accidental or unplanned babies do Gay couples have? Answer = none. Also because of the difficulty with adopting and other methods, its pretty hard to get a kid without being deemed fit and proper as a gay parent. Yet still I hear people chatting tripe about how the 'traditional family unit is important,' why,?

Also to all of you neanderthals comparing Homosexuality to incest and Paedophiles, you are f**cking morons.

Edited by coulsdoneagle (24 May 2015 1.37pm)

Haha, sticking you willy into another mans bum hole will not actually make a baby. Neither will rubbing two fannies together. Simple as that.
Homosexuality, incest, and peadophilia are all wrong. Yet we are at a point now (apparently) where gays are screaming about there "rights" so much, that you are trying to act like it's normal. It's not. Neither is fcuking your sister, or a child, yet do the people who want to do those things not have "rights" too. How long until were being forced to accept that too.
It's bullsh!t.

That's a good thing right, planned parenthood and adoption of all those unwanted babies that 'gods' way produces?

Presumably contraception, oral sex, handjobs, bdsm, mutual masturbation, sterility, vesectimies, hysterectomies and so on and so forth are all wrong (as they prevent the sacred miracle of getting knocked up).

No.
Too much trying to be a smart arse is making you miss the point.
I am not saying it is wrong to have any kind of sexual experience that will not end up in one participant becoming pregnant.
You need a man and a woman to create a child. Weather planned or not.
Two members of the same sex cannot create a child, no matter which parts they rub where, it just wont work.

There are a couple of points in your post that appear to relate to points I've made. So I'll answer those.

Yes, non reproductive marriage in my view is less important than reproductive marriage.

That's the main point of marriage.....Outside of that it's just a vanity project for two people to declare affection for each other.....Nothing wrong with that of course and I've gone and celebrated a few of those marriages myself...Also, I'm not pushing my view of marriage onto you...But I'm just giving you my opinion.

Personally I feel its an unwritten rule...A young couple's marriage is instinctively celebrated more than an old couple's for precisely the implied reason.

Your point about marriage in a Church is I feel for the Churches themselves.....I think the current arrangement in that regard is the right one...It would be dishonourable to go back on legal protections given to them during the original arrangement....It's for Churches to decide.

My point about feminisation regards to how I view the way society has changed since to use the expression, 'I was a lad'. Society has changed culturally and socially in this direction of individualism and 'rights culture'....I use the term 'feminisation' to describe the loss of the stiff upper lip....But I'm sure there is a better one.

There is nothing wrong with being gay.

It is probably better on the whole if children are brought up by a man and a woman, although there are no doubt some gay couples who would do a better job than some straight couples.

There is nothing wrong with gay people going through a form of marriage ceremony although a lot of people do not regard it as a true marriage as that term defines the union of a man and a woman, but I guess it is only a word so it does not really matter.

What is wrong and does matter is when the likes of the Northern Ireland bakers are persecuted for declining to assist in supporting same sex marriage. People should have the right to disapprove of same sex marriage and indeed gayness itself if they want. Businesses should have the right to decline to become involved in political issues.

I think that's just typical of your personal feminisation.

So obvioiusly, in respect to your viewpoint you may consider that a compliment.

You know exactly what I mean by wrong.
Why do you think being gay is acceptable. Why do you think I should have to accept it. And how the hell do you think I should be questioning my own sexuality just because I have a different opinion on the matter to you. Does embracing homosexuality confirm ones own sexual stance, whatever that may be!?

All because two adults consent to something doesn't mean it's ok.

You think it s wrong that's your prerogative
Millions don't that's there's
You appear to believe in organised religion
Millions don't.
You base your moral code on a series of books that is your prerogative
Guess what millions don't.
You are neither right or wrong, just that in Ireland more disagree than agree with you.

Gee wiz, you must have missed my first post. I am not religious. If you ask me all religion does is cause wars.
I just think it is wrong to tell religious people what they should have to accept. Most people don't like them doing it to others/ non believers, so why is it ok to force things on them.
What the feck is organized religion anyway!?
What series of books are you assuming I base my moral code on (my mother would be proud to think I even had one) The only series I'm taking in at the minute is breaking bad, the whole concept of that program is wrong. But I do enjoy watching it.
So..... I don't smoke crystal meth, but there's a sh!te load of people who do.

I'm not trying to say I'm right. I'm voicing my opinion that gay marriage is wrong.

..a gay person thinks exactly as you, even the things you don't realise gay people think about! sexually they see humans of the same sex as themselves as very attractive and as pleasurable as you do with a human of the opposite sex..they did not when born ask (as you like to imagine) to have these pleasurable thoughts brought into their lives as they grew up into adulthood...shock horror!

Writing your opinion that gay marriage is wrong is admitting your ignorance of my above letters.

And for those that think otherwise....it is not homosexuals who are not normal but your good selves. Unfortunately, you won't have the intelligence or self-awareness to see that but hey, ho!

Kermit at his finest - if you do not agree with him you are abnormal, unintelligent and lack self-awareness. Presumably he must think that the vast majority of Muslims are abnormal, unintelligent and lack self-awareness. But hey-ho.
