The problem for the BBC is that JC and his executive producer own 50% of the production company that make TG (the BBC own the other 50%). It won't continue if the two parties can't come to an agreement and with a worldwide audience of 300m and the BBC earning £4.5m from the programme last year, it will be a huge decision for the Beeb. According to Radio 4 news this morning they quoted TG earning £200M from overseas syndication and that Clarkson sold his existing stake ages ago. It will still be a huge cock up by the Beeb if they let him go. The BBC are in a very difficult position as they have given Clarkson plenty of warnings and made the point last time that it was his last warning so what are they supposed to do now. It wasn't a case of mumbling something inaudible under his breath or insulting a race by using a derogatory term that most of us had never heard of as this time if the stories are to be believed he physically assaulted one of the staff which for any other person in any other company is a sacking offence. If the BBC let him carry on as normal where does it stop?
If he has punched someone at work or threatened to punch someone at work no one can seriously expect that he can be allowed to carry on in his job. All the BBC bashing on this is just a load of hypocrites sounding off. One of the issues about Jimmy Saville is that he was too powerful to touch. You are just saying that Clarkson is also too powerful to touch. (Touch is probably an uncomfortable word to use in the same sentence as Jimmy Saville but you know what I mean).

Particularly if it were, for example,(allegedly) for punching someone in the face when Sir's refreshments were not up to Sir's expectations after filming had finished and Sir went off on a rant. I couldn't possibly say if that's (allegedly) what happened but it might be what someone who was there has (allegedly) said happened.

I wonder how many already adamant that Clarkson should stay were certain that Brand should gone? I must have missed the bit where he lamped Andrew Sachs.

The World needs people like Clarkson. Without his like, insipid liberals have one less thing to moan about and Blokes going through a mid life crisis have no role models.

Clarkson plays his cartoon character very well (and very profitably) - that of fat, balding out of condition middle Englander who's dress sense doesn't stretch beyond Next catalogue. He's cultivated a persona as a cardboard cut out, stereotypical unapologetic xenophobe trading on cardboard cut out stereotypes of everyone and everything else. Edited by The Sash (11 Mar 2015 1.01pm) If possession of this dubious set of attributes is sufficient to qualify one to be described as "talented" then I can only say God help the entertainment industry.
Although I do find him funny and irritating in equal measure. What he is is different from the acres of beige woodchip on legs that seems to be the world of Television presenting..he's a cartoon and a cultivated persona and I find it quite funny that people get taken in by that A television world totally inhabited by Phillip Schofields is to horrific to contemplate, whether you love or loathe Clarkson Edited by The Sash (12 Mar 2015 8.44am)

As an aside, I know how much it takes for me to want to lamp someone, (quite a lot contrary to popular opinion, unless you live in Sussex and support a team who's kit is not unlike a TESCO carrier bag.) So although resulting to violence is not the answer... blah....blah.... blah. This producer bloke may well have deserved a slap for being an utter tool, the fact is we dont know why it happened, it may have been unprovoked, I doubt it, my opoinion is two blokes had a square up so what. Should they both be sacked, no. Should they be fined and told to grow up? Yes. Should Top gear fans be punished becaus of it, Hell no, but the PC brigade at the Beeb have been just itching for an excuse to gag Clarkson as he doesnt fit into thier etho-centrical cleansed world. For me Clarksons on sccreen Personna is a beacon of light in what is a drab see of safe watching paint dry boring sanitised Beeb presenters who are scred of thier own shadow. BBC Bring Back Clarkson.

I agree that you should have personalities that challenge and provoke discussion and that's always going to be divisive. For your Pip Schofield I have Matt Baker....so when his saccharine grinning face looms I just turnover. I understand you have to have these shows as they do have an appeal to many as does Top Gear. No interest personally. A car gets me from A to B, some faster and in more comfort than others. But Clarkson's a snide. If you've got something to say to the Argentinians about the Falklands then stand up and say it. If you want to take the piss out of a Burmese man for being Burmese then do it so we can all understand it. Underhand, cowardly and juvenile.
