Boxing masterclass, he's just too good.

Don't understand the Pulis/boring comments, Mayweather was more aggresive tonight, threw more punches, landed more. I personally find watching Floyd performing like that far more interesting than two oaths slugging it out for a ten count.

Maybe being brought up on 90's/00's boxing, you expect at least a little bit of ambition instead of turtling the whole fight. He never really took the fight to Manny, winning on points was always the aim. The holding just drives me nuts, the equivilent of holding the ball up in the corner.

I miss fighters like Eubank, Jones Jr, Lewis, Tyson, Holyfield f*** me you can easily name about 40 fighters from that era who were amazing value for money. If tactical boxing if your thing then great, I'm not debating his quality as a fighter. But he is Chelsea, he is Pulis, and he does lack that bit of flair and excitement you'd find in many other legends.

Contrary to what Floyd thinks, he is nowhere near the top 50 boxers of all time. The best boxers always took risk and were always entertaining. Floyd just sucked the life out of boxing.

He's a boxing genius, it's just a pity that comes with the cost of the entertainment value in his fights.

Still it's been incredibly refreshing to see the two treat one another respectfully in the build up and after the fight had finished rather than the usual "I'm going to end his career blah blah" rubbish.

I agree but would add that whilst Manny did try, he wasn't himself and can't really complain at the result.

Mayweather is a class act. I enjoyed watching him control the fight. Boxing isnt all about knock outs.

If you think the fight was boring, you simply can't be a boxing fan (though you may be a fighting fan.) It was a masterclass. I cannot see how you can be bored by sporting genius unless you simply don't appreciate the sport in question.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

Couldn't agree more Syd. The fight was never going to be any different than it was. Unbelievable performance by Floyd.

Shockingly embarrassing post fight column in the Guardian, suggesting Manny was robbed for 12 rounds of air punching last night.

[Link]

Mayweather took us back to the Canelo fight last night and produced an absolute master-class against a fighter, once again, many predicted would cause him problems with power and speed.

I am a boxing fan, but the difference between boxing and football, with football you absolutely love 1 team, so a win is a win. A win that is entertaining is obviously better, but a win is more important than entertainment , to most.
With boxing I watch it to be entertained,as I'm not as bothered who wins as much, I fully appreciate mayweathers ring craft etc, but I'd rather watch froch or khan or someone that has a go and takes a punch to land one.
Kasidis is no where near the level of Floyd, but his fights were blinding, knock downs , incidents etc.
from round 1 last night the out come was pretty obvious.
Full respect to Mayweather for controlling Manny as he did, but at the end they both looked like they could do 12 rounds again. I still think that pac man 5/6 years ago would have had floyd in trouble as he'd have been on him like a rash.
The ring girls were another level yesterday though.

I suppose Mayweather is to boxing what Spain are / were to football. Control it, dictate the pace, nullify the threat of the opponent and be ruthlessly efficient.

I'm a firm believer in sport being more about the spectacle rather than winning at any cost.

Apt comparison. This fight did huge numbers but realistically was a let down as a super fight. It's no surprise that UFC is more popular with younger people. That's more about the event than the individual or politics.

That's true, but I think most youngsters grow out of that. Of course you get the occasional adult who still think it's real though :-D.

I never said it was real for one moment, but if you want to see how a successful business is run look no further than Vince McMahon and the WWE.
