If this idea is implemented then I'm looking forward to seeing the lazy little barsteward aged 22 in my road get up out of bed before noon to go to work for the first time in his life, rather than relying on dole money for his fags and booze that he enjoys in the local park most afternoons. Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |

Just in case you didn't realise... I don't even know where to begin. They are c*nts, out of touch, heartless, bloodthirsty c*nts of the highest order and I hope that Ed Milliband wins a landslide not because I like Labour, but just to rub in in these horrible conceited c*nts' faces that even a morally bankrupt party like Labour with a clown as leader is more popular than their brand of victimising, fear-inducing alienating politics. F*ck you Cameron. F*ck you. ---------------

I'm impressed that someone can still muster up such a glowing review and allegiance to any of the big parties though. Did you place a bid to go shoe shopping with Theresa May by any chance?

Anyway I'm not going to get embroiled in any political debate as as I shall only get on my 'Soapbox' and the thread will disintegrate into a slime-pit of bitterness and vaunting unpleasantless.! In my time I have been engaged in far too many heated arguments about politics - no good for the blood pressure ! I am sure as I canvass in the coming election there will be some I encounter who will perhaps raise my hackles ! I shall keep my 'Powder dry' for then !!!!

Politicians / parties simply give the illusion of choice and a fag papers worth of difference. I think it was Mark Twain who said 'if voting made a difference they wouldn't let us do it'

His comments are disgusting but that's how governments behave when they don't have to listen to young people. The Tories have concluded that the youth vote isn't substantial enough and likely wouldn't go their any anyway. Sadly to many older voters this attack on benefits for the young will be seen as a good thing. Of course the Tories will never offer an EU vote either though so they don't even listen to their own base beyond buttering up pensioners to get back in power.

There has been total mission creep on national insurance. The key word is the second - it is a premium paid to protect you from poverty when you lose your job through no fault of your own, when sick and in retirement if you do not have sufficient provision. Pensions should never have been a payment as of right. They should be a safety net for the elderly who cannot afford to live without it; those with a comfortable retirement nest egg should fund their own lives, pay full prescription costs, buy their own bus tickets and so on because they can afford it. To an extent this is all part of the post war socialist agenda that is not entirely the fault of the Tories and they have had to live with what the population has grown up to expect as an as of right hand out. However, it is difficult to argue with the fact that the Tories know who gets them into power; and it isn't the young or many of those of working age. It is that huge grey section of the population who tend to vote and who will express their discontent with any party that takes away what they [wrongly] feel is their entitlement. If the Tories were to try a fairer way to deal with benefits for the elderly, there is now a party who will happily take the votes of the huge number of dissatisfied elderly voters; one that probably comes closer to expressing their views on immigration, law and order, the EU and so on. Thus, they have to continue to bribe the elderly and need to get the money from somewhere. What better source than the young who don't use their vote anyway? Thus, while the string of expletives from the OP is understandable, it is hard to get away from the realpolitik of this proposed horrible policy.

Threads like this puzzle me. I dislike politicians. I think the Tories are charlatans who wouldn't know what a principle was if one crawled up their trousers and bit them. I think the parliamentary Labour party are metropolitan bourgeois snobs who secretly despise the people who give them most of their votes. "Out of touch" is possibly fair criticism (of MPs in general). But "heartless"? "Bloodthirsty"? Do you honestly think they are immoral people who willingly want to go out and damage people's lives? That strikes me as incredibly immature and irrational. I'm all for passion in politics but this reduces debate to a puerile, schoolboy level.
One example is the Tory's pledge to stop funding the EU's Mare Nostrum initiative, which saves hundreds of refugees, asylum seekers and those seeking religious, political and economic persecution in Africa who are fleeing for Europe by boat. The Tories' Baroness Anelay said they were stopping funding because they didn't want to encourage others to attempt the move. Regardless of your opinion on it, what is so frequently ignored in the debate around it is if you do follow Anelay's mode of thinking, you are implicitly condemning thousands of human beings to death in the short term. Often the only way I have found effective in translating this point in discussing with those on the right who are anti-migration is to resort to hyperbole. I'd rather not, nut so often a more moderate analysis of something so bleak and hopeless as mortality goes overlooked, and for me it can't afford to. Similarly in arguments of austerity, the death count of policy is again so often ignored. The official statistics of suicide in this country among men is at it's highest in 15 years, and that's ignoring the numerous unofficial deaths of ostracised groups, like illegal immigrants and homeless people. As with Mare Nostrum, the Tories are aware of these statistics, and only the most blinkered 'out of touch' human being would fail to see a correlation. The Tories may well ideologically believe that austerity measures such as the one I alluded to in this thread are beneficial overall for this country, but there has to be an awareness that they are killing people, however subtly, and to my mind that is totally c*ntish and must be exposed fully to their advocates, and if hyperbole is the only thing that allows a thread like this to go past it's 5th page or whatever, than that is justified.
