That's fair enough but when Bournemouth knocked back £6m for Ritchie from us we then quoted them £10m for Gayle...it's all horse trading and top managers do all they can to earn their corn and Pardew is great at that too...luckily for us. If Gayle's worth £10m...he's not..then Remy's worth the aforementioned plus sacks of cash. I think the fact everyone knows that the not so big clubs like ourselves and those that have come up too are desperate to stay up this season due to the season after's bonkers TV deal means that everyone is testing the water at the mo and the top end clubs like Chelski want to get as much cash as possible in due to fair play rules. It's going to be a merry go round and for some a disaster. We should just get the first big signing through the door, show our mettle and then offload certain players to pay the incomings wages. I think we'll be sorted by early July, ready for the week up at St Georges, Burton. With the early doors games we've got we need to have the squad sorted and ready to hit the ground running. We can all enjoy the nonsense in the meantime though...well...it's better than Wimbledon...that ensures 2 weeks of rain every summer...and zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

even if we could persuade him to come to Palace his wages of approx. 80k per week are more than twice our best paid player.

All every well affording the transfer fee but it's the whole package you have to consider.

Palace have been quite prudent re transfers and wages over the last 2 seasons so Remy might be a step too far too soon.

Granted, but THAT'S the money for quality and a lot less I'd say than Costa Fortune. There's only so much you can get 'on the cheap' and if we aren't going to do it properly and cough-up for players like Remy, then, instead of getting lesser grade players, we ought to stick with what we have, and I'd be happy with that. I really don't believe in the 'bargain basement' mentality evidenced by some of the candidates touted about (see Strikers for next year thread). If we want a top striker for next year Chelsea trained Loic Remy fits the bill. The PL is far too lucrative now to be trying to do it on the cheap.

My thoughts exactly. Too many on here saying "we can't afford this...we can't afford that...his wages is more than we pay" etc. You cannot do this on the cheap. either we aim for mid-table and then I say keep what we have, or go for it, and pay the money. It is arrogant and foolish to imply that bigger clubs spend more than they have to on players and so:'clever' us, we can buy the same at much less. Going up a level means higher wages for higher class players. I've said this before: 'You can drag the kid from the gutter - but you can't always drag the gutter from the kid". What that means is that our supporters have to challenge themselves to change their mindsets from that of the last several decades. This is a new era - if we take it. Having said that - we don't want 2010 again, and I am quite happy to aim to stay mid-table for a while yet.

Talksport said this morning that us and spammers can afford Remy's wages the stumbling block is Chelsea's £15 million asking price.

question is do we wait for Chelsea to lower the asking price or go for other targets?

Personally i think we should offer £9 to £10 up front plus add on's.

Pay £15m, get it done. We reportedly paid £6m (?) for Gayle and £7m for MacArthur. MacArthur's been quality and is worth every penny, but he wasn't a 'big' player, he wasn't proven quality. Remy is proven - and he's a goalscorer. He's scored at all of his clubs and for his country, he's definitely worth the £15m price tag. It's what we'll have to pay from now on as we want to move to the next level. And, if we can get £10m for Gayle, we can fund this move. We're progressing.

I totally agree, how comes teams like Bournemouth and watford can splash the cash but we always see to put to much thought into it and then miss out...if you want to be successful we need to invest to make us a better football team...£15 mill now is a no brainer... rip there hands off and get the deals we need, then move onto cabaye

I think Remy would be a good signing, in today's market 15 mill is about right, its all about being in the prem next season, if we can get and extra 10 -15 goals from a new striker and Murray stays fit we can be mid table and keep building.

We sell Gayle to help fund the move, if we are going to stay up we need to improve the squad, next season we will be in a much better place, we cant afford to stand still, this club has the best opportunity to build and they need to take a chance and gamble a little, last season we struggled to score didn't we.

Complete nonsense unless by magic you are in charge of the Palace purse strings. We can spend circa 30 million with no sales of anyone and ensure we stay up to cash in on the bonanza next season

Then with the likes of Gayle, Campbell, Hunt, Mariappa, Bannan and Guerdoira possibly going that is going to be somewhere in excess of 20 million coming back in.

We have moved a long, long way in the last few years but most of our supporters are stuck in the last decade.
