Politically,I "hated" Thatcher. But I had a friend who worked as a civil servant in No 10 at the time who said she was a very decent and considerate person to work for on a one to one basis ,compared to many other politicians.

I've heard that she was a total power freak and would use any situation to protect her position and family [somebody in particular was up to no good or maybe he was deliberately drawn into nefarious business activity]. It could well be that it was convenient to turn a blind eye but more likely that the very people she would turn to were already complicit and able to control her? Who knows?

I think we've kind of seen that, like the Catholic Church, society of the past, particualy of the eras leading into the later 80s and early 90s, really didn't care about adults f**king children, provided they weren't 'their children'.

And of course once it was uncovered, it would be quite logical to conclude that it had already been going on a while, and if it came out, that would likely result in a massive public backlash.

Its not really surprising that it might have been covered up, as 'the greater good', much like the way that 'national security' is abused in the same manner.

Which is why the enquiries into the likes of Dolphin Sq or Elm Guest House will ultimately come to nowt in real terms...Files will be lost, key witnesses will either develop sudden amnesia or pop their clogs, a couple of low rent sacrificial lambs will end up in The Scrubs and everything will go on as before....

Yep, it'll be dragged out like the Blair Gulf war enquiry, and by the time it gets around to actually going anywhere, then likely as not those responsible will be dead or to infirm to hold to account or give evidence.

Optimistically, the police seem to have found a recent zeal for these cases, because if it goes down the public enquiry route, well a lot of those names will be long dead or close to it before they have to give evidence - and certainly by the time you can bring perjury or non-compliance charges to bear, they'll be long dead.

I think the Met have taken the closing down of previous ops and folders being filed in the shredder by Leon Britten personally. It certainly would explain why the big publicity stunt around Sir Cliff'll which made it impossible to not to cover up and ensured it beat a few snakes out of the grass and also why they have unilaterally undertook other operations.

There is huge amounts to uncover here based on witness testimonies and circumstantial evidence alone, I am convinced of it.

If I was a copper, Camerons ridiculous and bizarre comments on This Morning where he was against investigations and enquiries because he 'didn't want witch hunts against gay people' smack of someone not knowing lots but enough to know he could well be holding the baby when it all blows up in their face.

I don't think the establishment was expecting such a backlash when it appointed two of their own, Woolf and Butler-Schloss, both with huge vested interests for the truth to stay hidden either - this has got to keep going

From whom may I ask?

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky.

I really detest Thatcher but I don't think it is fair to single her out. I have no proof but I strongly suspect there have been secrets regarding child abuse, that Prime Ministers were aware of, going back long before Thatcher and since her time as well.

I can't believe a thread about two dead people has been kicked around for 8 months.

It's pointless.

One galringly obvious point that hasnt been made yet (I dont think) is that many people who were friends with the nonce, didnt know he was one.

His family for instance people like his own flesh and blood didnt know he was a sex case, so how or why should Thatcher know ?

I mean granted, looking at him, you wouldn't trust him with your pet scorpian, let alone your kids, but things where very different back then.

There's also a certain amount of judgement going on here using 2015 yardsticks, that have the benefit of over 30 years of continuing (thank fcuk) attitude changes towards children and there well being.

I disagree, the potential scale of abuse is horrific. Certainly goes beyond Thatcher & Saville

This thread is pointless, not any investigations in to abuse.

You've only got to look at the title of it and the creator of it.

Sounds like quite a few people may have, or claim to have told her about both Cyril Smith, Peter Morrison and alleged that she tried to protect the diplomat Peter Haymen being 'exposed' (she failed, he was convicted to child p***.graphy charges relating to send material through the post, and convicted).

What does seem absurd though is 'protecting' Cyril Smith. It does seem that 'he moved in certain circles and could probably bring down all manner of controversy'.

Technically Harvey Proctor could be added to that list, but he was convicted of charges relating to sex with men who would now be legal (so the yardstick can be applied both ways).

I don't think there's really a huge problem with applying the 2015 yardstick, when we're locking up other offenders from the same era. What is disturbing is that no one seemed to actually care that much back then.

Also, raping kids is something I think most people would agree is unacceptable in any era.

This isn't just a left v right argument.

Margaret Hosge has some questions to answer

Bryn Alyn was on Labours watch

Too right it isn't.

Margaret Hodge was on 'watch' whilst wide spread abuse was occurring through Islingtons Socials Services - she was, under Blair and Brown, Minister for Children.

Hewitt, Dromey and Harman as widely reported where enmeshed in the PIE movement in the 70's.

Elm Guest House names a number of Labour Party members as well as other (Sinn Fein being another) as alleged abusers.

Cyril Smith was a senior Liberal and abuser of children.

Trying to score cheap political points off the systematic abuse of children on a football website to prove ones 'right on' Ben Elton-esque 'Mrs Thatch' credentials - disgraceful, lame and cheap.

Nice one Sash, very well said the abused kids are what matters,no what political views the cunds that are abusing happen to have.

Agreed. I'd say that those involved in covering things up are almost as culpable as the abusers.
Teachers and social workers are being threatened with 5 years jail for not reporting any concerns, will this extend to the 'establishment' ?

But you are the one who started this thread Nick.....Called Thatcher and Seville.

I started it as a thread on its own as Thatcher / Saville had been linked in another thread. Maggie (rest in piss) repeatedly called for Saville to be knighted.
