The rumour mill will grind on for a good while I should imagine. The story I heard was the pitch being rotated through 90 degrees, rebuild the Arthur which would then be behind a goal, rebuild the old stand in the car park, then extend the Holmesdale and Sainsburys stands towards the car park and towards the pitch as they would then be flanking the sides of the pitch. The serious work could only be done during May to August, so would take years to complete. As I said, the rumour mill grinds on.

The only way that that could work would be by the compulsory purchase of the houses behind the main stand to provide the room. It would also entail a Big Bang approach that would mean us moving out while the work was done. I think this rumour can be safely dismissed.

When proposed, I thought moving back to the Crystal Palace, which we were kicked out of by the Admiralty nearly 100 years ago, would solve many of the problems that Selhurst Park has, such as being totally surrounded by residential development. However, the residents surrounding CPP have mobilized to such a degree against any new construction that moving there is a non-starter. Bromley Council has a long stated opposition as well. So Selhurst it is. The Main Stand (Members/Derrick Ormonde/Clifton) has to be the first priority as it still built of wood in the upper half and needs an annual waiver to operate. We have had planning permission off and on for many years only for it to lapse due to one thing or another. Given the profound competence (a major understatement) of the CPFC 2010 consortium, I have every confidence that things will get done and sooner rather than later. Although a permanent move to CP park might have been ruled out I noted somewhere - wikapedia I think - that the official capacity is about 14,000 but this can be boosted up to 25,000 by use of temporary stands. This could provide solution to our problems by allowing a major rebuild of Selhurst, or part of Selhurst, while not affecting our overall attendance dramatically. Update - it can hold 24,000 with temporary stands. Edited by Catfish (23 Apr 2014 8.42pm)

In sure the residents would be fine with 1 season at the park. The alternatives do not bear thinking about. A ground share with millwall or charlton!

Using CP park on a temporary basis would not require anything like the battle that a permanent change of use would cause. We would simply be using the stadium in its present form and for its intended use. There is no doubt that Bromley council would make us pay through the nose for the privilege. They have a need to develop and upkeep the park and no money to do it though so I think they will overrule residents objections.

there was talk, during the great AW days of moving to Purley Way. Then it was a big, empty space. What's it like nowadays?
