Of course hypothetically, if we had the chance to have a few comfortable seasons in mid-table of the Premier League, no-one in their right mind would turn it down. But I guarantee you, in reality, within few seasons people would be moaning, just like the Stoke fans that wanted Pulis out, just like the Charlton fans that wanted Curbishley out.

The thing is, can Palace EVER be more than a mid-table club? Much like Stoke and Southampton etc., there is a finite limit to how many fans we can get and whether we could ever become as big as Arsenal, Liverpool, either Manchester club, Everton, Spurs (we can't).

So ultimately we can never be a huge club, so why not be happy just aspiring to match Southampton and Stoke and similar. Personally I'd be happy to be consistently in the second tier of the Premier league than the second tier of English football. And in fairness we have a very long way to go to establish ourselves in the premier league!

We can be as big as Chelsea. We were in the late 80s/early 90s. Its only Abramovic money that is keeping them at the very top. once FFP kicks in they will have to cut their cloth accordingly. Like we already do.
We'll never be challenging for the title on a regular basis but it is not beyond the realms of possibility that a lot can be achieved with a good manager, a hungry and talented squad and owners that want success therefore continually reinvest all the profits. Its what Clough and Forest did and look where it got them. People forget Forest were of similar size if not smaller than Palace before Clough came along. Like my old granddad used to say 'If you aim for the stars you might just end up with the moon' which aint bad!

Hmmmm.

If we play our cards right, we will have relative financial stability, a platform to grow the club and a fast-track pass for some of the longer term improvements needed around the club.

We need to establish ourselves first; that means no breaking the bank. We need to be shrewd enough that if we suffer from second season syndrome, we aren't paddling up a certain creek without a paddle. I fully expect a summer transfer window that is similar to the recently passed January one.

I know it's alien to us, we've always been defined by hardship, the "so very nearly" moments and one hell of a yo-yo rollercoaster, but if handled right, establishing the club in the BPL would give us a foundation unlike anything this club has seen for a very very long time. It's like dreaming of winning the lottery, and then it happens. You have to be careful not to take the money for granted, because it might not always be there. At the same time, it's important to remember who you are and not lose sight of that. The club could potentially change in the next decade, but it's important everyone involved remembers where we came from.

Until then though, let's get the Villa game out of the way. After that, the next, and so on.

I don't think we have much chance of become established mid-table. If we emulate anyone, it'll be Wigan, lots of relegation battles.

How about a trip to cold sh!tty Priestfield or Cardiff on a freezing Tuesday night?

Mid-table in the Prem is a much nicer thought!

And I see signs of half remembered days, I hear bells that chime in strange familiar ways

Why not? If we stay up, with TP in charge, we have every chance. Can't ask for more than that!

What may be a big change in all this - Is it inevitable that their will be a European League, possibly two? This would take away perhaps up to four clubs. Then the logistics of everything changes.

We have been a mid championship table team for far too long flirting with both ends of the table without really doing anything, whats the point of supporting a team without wanting them to progress, it doesn't make sense.
