The Legand that gave us our name EAGLES Has sadly Past Away. Lite a fatty up for me Mal.
Great memories of the good ole days. When players played for the club and the supporters .not for their wallets.
Cheers Mate

I can see him now on that first day of the season against Notts Cty.He had a touch line ban on him so wasn't allowed on the bench.
He came out with the players and was having a kick around before it started and the ref didn't know,he got away with it.
Larger than life..a man i will NEVER forget.

I remember that game well. We lost 1-4 in front of 25,000 in lovely sunshine.

That's right Kerm,in fact we didn't win a game until November but nobody was calling for his head.
I remember reading in the Adda, before that first game of the season, that he had a surprise in store for us before the kick off.Didn't have a clue what he was on about until he ran out with the players,I turned to my Brother and said, what player is that, and then realised it was him.
Only he could pull a stunt off like that and get away with it.
He once said that he couldn't believe how good the Palace fans were to him by not slagging him off because of the poor start he had with the club,as they were at previous clubs when it wasn't going to plan.
He turned it round and gave us loads to smile about.

A big part of Palace history died today!

Always remember that fabulous cup run, mase ordinary players great, and allowed the talent to flourish. i'll even forget his treatment of Jacko,
interested in Peter Taylor's reaction.
Bless you Mal

RIP to a true Palace legend - remember going to his first game back - think we beat Norwich 4-1. Sad day, hopefully the Milwall fans will show respect if his passing is marked in anyway.

As he was a true EastEnder born within the sound of Upton Park I think it highly, highly unlikely. If they do abuse it everyone should throw their reinforced hidden razor bladed fedoras at them a la Oddjob.

RIP Mal, transformed our colours and nickname, Palace wouldn't be the team that they are today without his vision.

Didnt he give us the Eagle nickname and mascot?

yes changed the colours to red and blue and the club badge, and the Eagles name

And he gave us "The Sash"

That would be a shock to my Dad but I do love a cigar so it would explain a lot

Everytime I saw his picture my thoughts went back to 1976 and the glorious cup run which ended at Stamford Bridge in the SF v Southampton.

Big Mal's fedora and thousands of us all wearing them that day.

RIP Big Mal... you were one of our greatest managers.

Fantastic Memories !! Just everything about those times seems just brilliant - wonder how Fiona Richmond has taken it !! LONG LIVE THE FEDORA - LOVE YA MAL !!!

Same as usual...up the arse...

Imagine if he was manager today and how mental it would be on here given the start he had.....

A bit before my time, but I know he was a legend. I always remember the FA cup semi final interview with him at half time saying we would get back into the game.

RIP
