I appreciate you putting your thoughts down in language that I can understand, cryst. This is mainly bollocks. You can’t beak off about the ‘one and only narrative’ whilst literally regurgitating from, you guessed it, one narrative. The irony is exquisite. If you don’t read around multiple sources, of all flavours (importantly even the ones you don’t like) then you’re an idiot. That applies whether you are right, left, centre or Quackers. I see nothing to suggest that Q fanatics do anything other than exclusively read 8kun at all hours waiting with baited breath for the next drop that they can furiously w*** over. Also - every news outlet has inherent bias. There is a difference between reading and understanding that, vs being ignorant of it. Positioning your preferred source of information as though it doesn’t have bias or financial and power based motives compared to ‘The MSM’ is bizarre. PS - Courage? Really? You should always be open to anything but be open in a scientific and objective way. Not decide that one or many news sources are off limits to you on a quasi religious whim. For the record I practice what I preach, I read as wide a spectrum as I can, including stuff I really don’t want to read but do anyway. Because facts and evidence. Every once in a while sifting through total s*** produces a nugget.

I listened to a trust director today who said the reason wards are empty is because staff have been moved to work on covid wards so clearly cannot be on a general ward. A mental health worker also said some of her previously medically trained staff have been requested to work on hospital wards. Another quack said that having so many in ICU for the same condition is scary. Normally he said you may have one car crash, one heart attack, one op etc but all with exactly the same! Before covid there were empty wards but I dont recall any posts asking why the nhs constantly bleats about not enough money. A female host on LBC tonight was criticising some print media and social media for downplaying the situation the hospitals are in. The problem is there’s an awful lot of information showing this isn’t any different or worse than any other winter. It’s only when either bbc say it’s as bad as April (but leave out that it’s the same as previous winters), or someone says wards are full, only for someone else in a ward to say they aren’t. Vaccinate all hospital staff and teachers ffs. Going to get more annoying the longer they don’t.

Ok so they may be as busy but 71k plus people didnt die within 28 days of having a flu diagnosis last year! Or I'm sure were a half or more of the inpatients in isolation wards or ICU.

We’ll know exact excess death figures etc for 2020 in a couple of days. One reason for running out of capacity may well be removing a lot of beds for social distancing. Why they’re doing this I don’t know. I’ve never seen a ward of beds close enough to not be social distancing. Sounds like usual meddling gone mad. But not vaccinating medical staff and hearing that many are isolating or off sick while complaining about being overrun or full sounds particularly stupid all round. To be expected I suppose. Not a big one on New Year's resolutions but I do want to read more political books and autobiographies next year although I also sense that the 'reset' that is coming (and I think that we can all accept the general notion if not agree on the specifics) following 2020 is perhaps one that has to evolve rather than follow any kind of predictive time-line. Covid is a genuine game changer on so many levels that it is impossible to guess how it will pan out for at least 2 to 3 years. 'Interesting times' as some old tiddly once said.

Is the official figure for deaths caused by covid of otherwise fit people under 60 years old still at 388? Just throwing that in there for a bit of balance. Just to put this into perspective, during the same period in 2019, 670 people were killed in knife crime. So the statistics say you are almost twice as likely to die as a victim of a knife attack as a fit under 60 year old than you are of Covid. I must remember this next time I’m out in London with my mask on. Edited by Eaglecoops (30 Dec 2020 11.48am)
