So we are all in danger from this new strain and yet it's OK for two thirds of the country to have Christmas day mixing. I am angry because I think the government have bottled it. They don't want to upset all those midlanders and northerners who voted Tory this time round but London is lost and Kent pretty much votes Tory anyway, apart from Canterbury which is riddled with Lefty students.

But also they plunged NW snd NE England into higher tiers this Autumn so I can see politically why they haven’t now. However, if this is spreading quickly like they claim, then yes it makes no sense scientifically. They’ll be in tier 4 with us soon enough. People should just not be having old folks round. I know quite a few who’ve kept away from people a lot but because it’s Christmas some will want to chance being the people who will die.

Why tempt fate this year when this disease is a proven killer. Sadly one of my mrs colleagues lost her dad yesterday. In hospital last friday, bang, gone now; 70 odd.

Just out of interest I put a central Manchester and Liverpool postcode into the checker and their rates, cases and hospitalisations are way below the south east so like it or not it would appear that they are doing better than us down here. Edited by The Dolphin (24 Dec 2020 6.29am)

Back in the summer it spread from the SE oop north I fear it will do so again. I expect after Christmas the whole country will be in lockdown.

Edited by The Dolphin (24 Dec 2020 6.29am) A lot have recently had Covid and/or been in more lockdowns. The cycles keep repeating though. Everyone or enough won’t be vaccinated for ages. Going to be grim for a lot longer than people realise. 6 months or maybe nearer 12. I oppose. But yesterday I went into busy sainsburys briefly. Well it was very busy in the homeware and Christmas area. Everyone masked up, 3 late 30’s or early 40’s women having a loud social gathering in one of the main aisles. Great for them. Now I would never act like this when I was mask less but I think this shows the problem. Still too many that won’t agree to just be a bit sensible. But then they close sensible pubs and restaurants so what the fvck am I talking about. Let’s hope there’s still some enjoyment and quality of life after all this and after we’ve drowned current and future generations and taxpayers in debt. Not to mention those in need who will lose many social programs and assistance.

I think it would do so whether or not any there are any new strains or anything. There’s an expected return to all of this. Just makes these lockdowns all so pointless. It would make more sense to spray every secondary school pupil and person entering a hospital in sanitiser.

I was only saying to my dear wife, to forget any holiday in 2021 as I have come to the view that some sort of normality will not return until at least 2022. We could well be informed that the vaccines under development are not suitable for new variants of the virus, further development is needed and that the innoculations have been put on hold.
