Does anyone find it odd that the government didn't extend Tier 4 to everywhere for Christmas Day? We already in tier 4 have had our Christmas day ruined but for some reason the rest of the country can go right ahead and risk spreading the new variant on the 25th. Does anyone think politics is playing a part on this?

How curious that this would emerge just when they want universal vaccine take up. Some might just say, opportune. A best case scenario for young people wanting the vaccine is 6 months +. By that time we'll know if this variant is more of the same or a significant turn of events, so they would be able to decide on their course of action based on the state of play at the time. What is or isn't said about it now won't change that. Or as a more general point that this is contrived to scare us all into getting the vaccine, I would advise those currently being offered it to have it anyway, but that's down to the individual. Regardless of peoples views on the governments 'approach' (I'm as stir crazy and aware of the economic hit as any), it's clear that we won't be getting back to anything akin to normality until they've at least vaccinated the elderly, so we should all be willing on that process. And yes, I certainly agree that it's a thoroughly miserable time for all and hope that 2021 turns the page on that before we all lose our minds, livelihoods or both.
