The discussion re RH and his input into transfers is an interesting one, whether he has input or not. Who can explain the acquisition of Sorloth, Jach, Camarasa, and that other fellow I can't remember the name of, he was here for so little time.
There must be a serious disconnect along the line somewhere...

Your analysis is all doom and gloom yet the facts tell us Roy led us to our record Premier League points total last year despite limited resources and is on track to do the same again. His record at Palace (points per game) is far superior to Dyche at Burnley or Howe at Bournemouth who some people advocate as successors. The suggestion he's not interested in transfers is laughable. He's been explicit about the need to bring in players this window. The youngsters will break through if they are good enough as we saw with AWB.

Your post has a lot of truth in it and is saying what I have been saying for a long time. Roy is set in his ways and will not change, he has his favourites and does not try different players he has at hand. He has shown no interest in transfers and that's his excuse for whining about lack of incoming players. I do not believe for one minute that SP and Dougie get players in without consulting him. He will not try the youngsters when if he did he might be really surprised at what they can achieve. As I have said Roy is too set in his ways and will only play defensive football hoping for a break to go forward. He needs to try playing attacking football for a change as other teams can read him like a book and we get pinned back all the time. Roy is keeping us in the top league but that's about it I am afraid. No decent player wants to come to us looking at how he sets up our team.
Its a pity because we have a good set of players that could do so much better with a new plan B.

I have no actual knowledge of this it is just what I have assumed from various sources but it seems as though Roy doesn't have a massive say if any on transfers and probably like most managers wishes he did! At the very least he has looked to be fuming at our lack of activity however has carried on doing his job, quite well, in spite of this.

If someone shoots down this theory, as mentioned, I would not argue back with them that's just what I have inferred.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Worryingly we were apparently about to ship AWB out on loan just before Ward got injured, so we couldn't see talent when it was right under our noses.

I think we need to divide this up as I simply don't see the two in the same light.

Roy has years of experience. He cuts his cloth to fit and has ow created a team that is dull but hard to beat. He also has them playing to the final whistle.

Parish is just a clever version of SJ both saved the club but both have run out of money. SJ tried to play fast and loose with HMRC but Parish has just enough cash and nouse to keep going.

But in doing so he just papers over the cracks. We just take on a few more loans sign a few old war horses on a free and flog off a bit of the family silver when we need to.

I suspect yet again we will see no permanent signings and the new stand will never be built.

But lots on here will tell me I am wrong and yet again marvel at the Emporers new clothes

Err “ truth “ ? And what truth would that be then ?? As someone else said, exactly what insider knowledge do you have - rhetorical question as it’s plain that you have none.

“ No interest in transfers “ , well Hodgson has repeatedly said that we failed to sign full backs in the summer even though it was clear to everybody that we needed to. I would say that’s taking an interest.

How the transfer targets are selected is another matter. My understanding is that Hodgson identifies the areas where we need players, Parish sets budgets and Freedman sources likely candidates. Hodgson does not say “ go out and sign Max Aaron’s “ as an example.

And why does he “ need “ to play attacking football exactly when his methods are working to the extent they are ? Did you ever find a way of being successful in your job but then decided to change for the sake of it ?

No decent players want to join us ? Have you seen the budgets the club works to ?

Apologies for the number of questions in my post but I’m genuinely staggered by your thought processes

Thing is, if Parish has no money (apart from his shares in the club) and the Americans do not want to spend. What’s he meant to do?

Whilst I dont agree with everything he does, I did read that in the 100+ history of Parish

Chairman with most wins ever = Steve Parish
Chairman with most income ever = Steve Parish
Most consecutive seasons in top flight = Steve Parish

Not bad for guy papering over cracks.

We are 9th in the league, we are above arsenal. Is this not progress. Is it me are are we starting to sound a little like arsenal fans???

My understanding was that Roy turned down AWB's request for a loan because he believed AWB was close to a first team breakthrough.

There seems to be blind protection for Roy on these forums, keeping us mid table is not a miracle. As stated in my first post, we have the 9th highest wage bill in the league, that should translate into a fairly safe league position.

He knows how to keep us safe, and he knows how to keep his job.

Wouldn’t describe it as blind protection. Every manager has his faults, Hodgson included.

But I will come on here and defend him against some of the more ludicrous charges - an example being your comment about him taking no interest in transfers .

The facts are that like any job, Hodgson is given objectives. Can you guess what his top priority one is ? If his methods result in his achieving that objective why on earth would he change them ? So yes, he knows how to keep us safe and how to keep his job - what would YOU do in the same situation ?

And if paying high wages should equate to league position then how do you explain Benteke’s salary; West Ham’s wage bill....I could go on. If there was a direct correlation between wage bill and results then Man Utd should be somewhat nearer the top of the league than they are

My understanding is that Freedman, Parish and Roy all have input into potential signings. Cahill, for instance, was a signing driven by Roy. More typically, Roy identifies where he needs players and Dougie identifies targets. He then needs Roy's blessing to pursue those targets. That's the way it should work. Whether it's always coordinated that smoothly is a moot point. The evidence suggests it's hit and miss.

I totally understand your thinking on this matter.

The 'Hodgson Way' has worked in that it has secured PL survival, which like it or not, is the sole ambition of the club, and in all likelihood his methods will ensure we do not slip through that dastardly relegation trapdoor this season. The owners must be in awe of him - a manager who secures PL survival without major injection of funds in the transfer market.

Supporters might be fedup with the style of football but as far as the club is concerned the end justifies the means.Norwich play a rather expansive game, especially at home, and they are rock-bottom.
