I tend to trust the public service broadcasters above any who are privately owned. There is though some privately owned media whose thoughtful comment is always worth considering. Then there are some whose whole approach is to reinforced prejudice. There are no implications that other posters aren't capable of rational thought, and I have never suggested otherwise. I trust everyone is capable. Whether they always do think rationally is another matter. Doubt is caused when someone posts a link to an article from an unapologetically biased contributor who is being allowed to occupy column inches in a national newspaper. Fine but still no names?

There's a story today that Migrants at Marston are complaining that Home Office contractors have been trying to sell them drugs. As one Albanian put it "It's disgusting, that's our job"

That they are, and they judge on behaviour alone. Those that behave with respect will receive it in return. Who are you trying to kid?

Was listening to LBC the other day when the presenter claimed this country is desperately short of people and needs all these migrants more than they need us.

Fine but still no names? Having named the one I particularly find offensive, is it really necessary to list all the broadcasters/publications I might use from from time to time? They aren't all British! Having given my general approach a rational response would be that is sufficient to answer the question.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

If you can find me anyone in media that isn't intentionally or unintentionally biased, well, I'll spare you the trouble. Not a thing. They don't exist. Even if it was possible to be perfectly and provably impartial you'd still get the same 'biased' flak from all sides regardless. There's less and more bias, not unbiased and biased. Does the BBC even claim to be unbiased? Pretty sure they aim for impartiality and balance and don't claim to be completely impartial. Better than a lot of media outlets – at least they have some sort of checks and can be held to account, even if it doesn't always work as it should Hence my comment " the media in general " The BBC Charter requires them to be impartial, it's not their choice, as laughable as that is bearing in mind the bias they exhibit. The licence is out of date and should be binned, people don't rely on the BBC as they used to decades ago. IF the Govt thinks the foreign language services contribute to soft power then pay for them from the Foreign Office budget
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Not all but a few would mean links posted aren't dismissed as pushing an agenda. Certainly the BBC rates highly, along with Channel 4. Of the news media I read the Times and Sunday Times more than others, but also respect the Telegraph. I will dip into the Guardian if I want to read an alternative take on an issue which interests me. I don't use any of the tabloids and tend to dismiss whatever they say. If they are presented in a search I move on. Anything that is heavily edited to match the expectations of a particular readership, and fit around advertising, is not a serious analysis of an issue.
