There was indirectly, the Tories never wanted Brexit nor did te majority of the Commons. Obstacle after Obstacle, Burckow!, You really need to get over it, if people like you had accepted the result, who knows. Edited by Spiderman (21 Jun 2024 8.07pm) The HoC has a duty to do what they believe is in our best interests. If that was to try to force a rethink then they did what we pay them to do. In fact, in the end, they failed to do their duty and triggered Article 50. I of course accepted the result of the referendum! It is what the referendum meant that was disputed. No referendum in the UK is binding. Parliament is sovereign. What is said on the bbs is irrelevant and unknown to me because I don’t read it. Brexit was done. That’s history. The task now is to recover from it and find the best path forward. My own view being it has been every bit as a disaster as expected and, together with the pandemic and Putin’s war, has put us in as bad a place as I can remember. I know what I would like to do but see no immediate prospect of that happening. We face 5 years of Labour in charge of a mess which would take even a purveyor of miracles much longer to sort out.

'Britain has become the 51st state of the USA, led by a senile dementia patient' - Galloway. No doubt into WW3 if they bother to inform us. A conspiracy of silence exists, not only in the Tory and Labour parties, but also the British media, over Gaza and Brexit. It's fun to see them squirm but it's also pathetic.

There was no reference to the Tories. Only to what Brexit itself has delivered. Which is entirely negative. I challenge anyone to identify one improvement of any kind which it has delivered, beyond the theoretical nonsense of “taking back control”. Okay, not of the highest importance in the great scheme of things, but taking your words to mean what they say, I offer: The right we now have not to export live farmed animals for slaughter, and the right of insurers to use gender as one their criteria in setting premiums.

Which with Farage is very necessary.

We are out. That is what I hoped for. Europe is a mess. They make ever increasing demands to belong to their little trading block, but Europe is weak and getting weaker. I'd happily be in the European trading block again, but not if we have to be dictated to by Brussels and restricted in who we trade with outside. We voted to join the common market, not a would be federal Europe. We were never going to join a Federal Europe. That was always blatant scaremongering. Other countries might, but not us, nor some others. It would have to be under a separate arrangement. If Europe is getting weaker then I wish we were too! They have problems. Everyone does as a result of international events and the pandemic but their strength in numbers will see them through much more surely than we will alone.
