You're exactly right. Have close family in them all. They do nothing and are highly rewarded for it (after going up the scales). They then get excellent pensions. So unfair on the “lower end of the scale” public servants. Many work incredibly hard for very little reward. You would be surprised how low the average public sector pension is.

Cab you believe senior civil servants not only want to not come to the the office they want permission to work from abroad, presumably in their French second homes There is a big difference between Senior Civil Servants and those near the bottom of the scale. Unfortunately they all get lumped together when Joe Public are sl**ing them off

Much to people's derision, but they can really gum up the government works, can certainly see Rees-Mogg going to the back of the queue. There is never enough prepared to strike to make any difference. The loss of money is not compensated, at airports they bring in staff to cover ( more often than not paying them extra),

Organisational restructuring happens to be what I do. I am sure the Civil Service in all its guises is ripe for change but it's a very difficult thing to pull off. Just reducing headcount by 19% won't do it. What usually happens is that people capable of getting jobs elsewhere take the pay-off and run, leaving the weakest behind After the London Olympics BF ran a Voluntary Early Redundancy Scheme. They were absolutely gobsmacked how many applied to go. Most had no other jobs to go to but just wanted out due to poor management and working conditions. The organisation has never recovered, staff number, wise. They keep recruiting but staff retention is the issue. Treat staff with a bit of respect and have Senior decision makers, who have a background in the actual job is a good place to start

Recalling what his wife told the prime minister, Mr Ratcliffe said: "I just want you to know the mistake, the comments in 2017, had a lasting impact." "She said I lived with that for ages and I knew it was a mistake, but it lingered."

The stupid woman went to Iran and cost this country millions and now complains. She doesn't deserve the taxpayer coin spent on her. If she were a working class girl they would probably have cared even less, let alone had millions exchanged for her..... as our politicians have proven by ignoring rapes for decades up and down the country. Perhaps so But this thread is about the incompetence of the government. BoJos incompetence in this case was manifest and mind boggling His lack of attention to detail nearly killed a British citizen but he doesn’t appear to understand.

Edited by Stirlingsays (13 May 2022 9.47pm) Don’t know what the plan is or which law was used. I believe assets are frozen not redeployed. Maybe they will go towards reparations to Ukraine in due course This may be relevant The Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (“POCA”) sets out the legislative scheme for the recovery of criminal assets with criminal confiscation being the most commonly used power. Confiscation occurs after a conviction has taken place. Other means of recovering the proceeds of crime which do not require a conviction are provided for in the Act, namely civil recovery, cash seizure and taxation powers. The aim of the asset recovery schemes in POCA is to deny criminals the use of their assets, recover the proceeds of crime and disrupt and deter criminality. Since 2010, more than £746 million of criminal assets has been seized (to 2013/14) across all four methods of recovery – a record amount. Over the same period, assets worth more than £2.5 billion have been frozen denying criminals access to these resources and £93 million has been returned to victims.
