There are several new variants, many of which are likely weaker even if they do spread faster. There's no reason to believe that the vaccine wouldn't help against it. Don't panic, the government is already good at doing that for us. New variants 11 days before Christmas, flu season under way. Hmmm. I’ll continue to do the right thing but forgive me for smelling BS or exaggeration. Oh and the lab scientists aren’t going to know on these new variants for a few weeks. How convenient or inconvenient. It appears Angela Merkel announced tough pre Christmas restrictions for Germany before Christmas. That might explain us copying again. Agree. Merkel announced her tougher restrictions yesterday. And I think it’s away of putting people off Christmas. I think many have already actually. They’ve had their verve sucked out of them. Edited by Rudi Hedman (14 Dec 2020 7.55pm)

Is this the same as the 'normal' flu? Your comment implied that yearly or successive vaccines are somehow abnormal. Also, we have a vaccine for 'normal' flu. So what you're saying makes no sense. If we had no flu vaccine at all then yes, we would be. Do you not understand how this all works? Edited by SW19 CPFC (14 Dec 2020 5.23pm) No, in that it only seems to do exactly what the government (and the opposition) want. A strangely political virus. Oh, and you ignored pretty much all of my points.

You can’t just make segues away from your original post to deflect onto something you want to rant about - I’d suggest you’re doing the swerving here. Your original post that I replied to insinuated, well basically stated that a virus doesn’t mutate and you used the existing flu already in circulation as an example why we don’t need these extreme measures. IF WE DIDN'T HAVE AN ANNUAL VACCINE PROGRAM ALREADY SET UP ALONG WITH YEARS OF PRIOR EXPOSURE WE’D BE IN THE SAME SITUATION WITH THE EXISTING FLU VIRUSES. Idiotic. I really shouldn’t need to spell it out. It’s a constant source of amazement that someone who allegedly runs a business and sends their kids to institutions that a) ironically are the breeding ground of leftists, liberals and elites and b) champion critical thinking, can come up with such overly emotive mind dumps. It’s jarring Now. If you’re referring to your claims about a new mutation being a good excuse for tier changes - I’m pretty sure the numbers do that regardless. But yeah, sure, if you want people to be a bit more vigilant I’m sure plenty of hyperbole has been used throughout this saga. No different to sales techniques or ad campaigns. As long as the end benefit is worth it from a purely biological point of view then fine. If you actually do some reading, mutations are very common but one is not the same as t’other. Some are harmless, others can cause new or unexpected issues - in this case as it’s claimed, a higher infection success rate. This virus and the flu virus have been mutating for eons. It’s not some new thing that only started happening yesterday. Biology 101. Edited by SW19 CPFC (15 Dec 2020 10.40am)

Whitty. totally discredited, and he still takes Government (yours and mine) ££wonga. "A new variant of coronavirus has been found which is growing faster in some parts of England, MPs have been told. England's Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty told a press conference there was "no evidence" it was more dangerous." (BBC website) And for years there was "no evidence" asbestos was dangerous. Or smoking was a killer. Or putting lead in petrol was a no-brainer (so to speak) Only state the fcking obvious when it's already happening. Absolute fcking moron. People pay for Higher Education these days. If Whitty was my lecturer,...something would happen And just to make a scientific thread less political. there is no reasonable debate from Labour. Their silence is deafening (as the opposition).
I disengage, I turn the page. |

Have people not realised how this works? I beleive this is how a virus works. It does itself no favours killing its host so it gets more contagious and slightly weaker to stay alive and carry on its infection to survive. I think that's what happened with the spanish flu. Basically it could be the start of the end so to speak. Figures on deaths may well back this up but it will take 4-5 weeks for the data to show if this is the case.

Is there evidence then?
