Have you ever gave consideration that he might not be as good as you think now, as no decent team has come in for him, even though he is a free agent. People keep saying this, yet as has been reported he is waiting until the end of this month to run out his contract with his agent. So no interest from any team has been fully made public, even our own interest in him. Everything at this stage is rumour. My guess is that he is staying, and that both he and the club know that. He keeps posting about being at the training ground and at Selhurst and the other day posted a video about not being able to kill eagle's or something like that.

I think many of us recognise that Zaha's impact may well diminish going forward and note that we are no longer solely dependent upon him to secure wins as we seem to have been in the past.

I actually share Wilf's desire to see how he could perform in Champions's league football and from that point of view I'd like to see him move on. Putting CPFC first - as we should - I was actually startled at how much better we looked without him when he was injured after Roy's return; but it's too easy to forget how easy a run of games we had then ; against Wolves I found myself wondering if he could maybe have found a way to crack their defence and against top 6 sides that might be even truer. But I wish he could merge better into the much more talented attack we now have and I worry about the too generous contract we're offering. The only games we played against non-relegated sides without Wilf were Everton (0-0); Wolves (lost 2-0); Fulham (drew 2-2) and Forest (drew 1-1). We couldn't crack the lower half sides for this coming season without Wilf, and we cracked Bournemouth and West Ham with him, alongside that solitary defeat at Spurs. Wilf was clearly carrying lacking proper rehab through those games too. Agree that we should be careful not to assume that last year's attack without Wilf is good enough.

Wilf could be holding of to make a point to the board to sign some players/ invest in the squad and show some ambition.

I agree, although something I feel has been a significant factor in Wilf's declining presence in games is the amount of times he has rushed back from, played through, and exposed himself to injury. My hope is that we can stop being totally dependant upon Zaha to the point where he gets a rest sometimes, whether to rehab properly or as a preventative measure, and that he is a far more energetic presence when he does play.

Absolutely! He has played some great games and scored some vital goals, but he’s also had a few howlers and moaned his way through matches but not been subbed. I don’t think that has been good for his development as a player or indeed the rest of the team. It’s a team game and no one should be guaranteed a place in the team or treated differently. We’ve moved on from the “can’t win without Wilf” and if he signs we should use him like any other player.

Edited by Jacey (22 Jul 2023 12.15pm) Edited by Jacey (22 Jul 2023 12.15pm) It's only a saga because journalists who know nothing about what's going on post stories as though they do know, and then football fans, who know as much as the journalists do, waste their time reading them. It's not a saga at all. It's about a footballer who is a free agent who isn't rushing into a decision about his future.

Lets not forget Wilf played at Forest, missed a first half penalty and sulked for the rest of the game. We lost 1-0.
