Serious question Maple. What are the rules relating to visitors into Care Homes? Do you have to have been vaccinated and a close relative? We have an ex neighbour who has very few relatives (none close by) and I was thinking of trying to pay her a visit. Thanks in advance Every care home resident will be able to nominate a single named visitor who will be able to enter the care home for regular visits. These visitors should be tested using rapid lateral flow tests before every visit, must wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all other infection control measures (which the care home will guide them on) during visits. Visitors and residents are advised to keep physical contact to a minimum. Visitors and residents may wish to hold hands, but should bear in mind that any contact increases the risk of transmission. There should not be close physical contact such as hugging Care homes can continue to offer visits to other friends or family members with arrangements such as outdoor visiting, substantial screens, visiting pods, or behind windows In our case we are trying to keep all visitors to our outside pods rather than letting them inside. They can hold hands around the sides of uPVC screens provided the visitor wears gloves.

Is it the EU putting a squeeze on Belgian production of Pfizer vaccine to the UK and what does it mean for all those who need their booster jab after 29 March? I presume the booster has to be the same vaccine as the first one?

From the end of March is when I would expect the NHS to start issuing the 2nd dose. If they saying they have enough for that but not another to give first doses that is not too sad. If they don't have enough for 2nd doses that is a real worry.

Am I missing something here? The EU are criticising us for holding back our vaccine, yet have suspended rollout of the AZ jabs in all of their larger countries leaving a huge stockpile awaiting a confused and reticent population. I don't get it.

It's potentially a very serious situation for the UK if booster jabs for the most vulnerable are due from the end of this month and there is no vaccine to give. Some of the other vaccines (e.g. Moderna) are due to come online soon and should be available for first jabs but are they manufactured in the EU as well? No mention here of the dependency of BioNTech upon excipients produced by Croda in Snaith then. That could be an interesting Mexican standoff don’t you think.
