This is a "Roy Out" thread NOT a "Willo Out" thread ! With respect just re-heated old hogwash which I have batted away with the confidence of a top-order batsman. In the interests of HOL,I suggest the debate returns to the subject matter and I shall play my part by ignoring any further Anti-Willo brickbats. Edited by Willo (13 Dec 2020 11.40am)

The Roy Out thread has been a bit quiet lately. Does this mean the Roy Out folks are changing their tune? People have always said on here that he only knows one way of playing and that is ultra defensive and hasn’t a clue how to attack but this season we have seen lots of attacking and some lovely football. Was the problem all along the players at his disposal? Are we now beginning to see what he can do with the right players?

I can’t buy into the players at his disposal point though. The only difference between the good and the bad has been a fit Benteke and the arrival of Eze. Clyne is no better or worse than Ward and I reckon PVA is a liability we have to carry although admittedly better than Mitchell going forward. Everyone else is exactly the same. Edited by EddieMac (18 Dec 2020 7.55am) He's only playing 1 new player in the starting line up so I don't think that argument stacks up. After defeats to Burnley and Newcastle he was in big trouble, maybe he finally realised something had to change? There are still the same old Hodgson traits, but he's finally made some positive changes. We now only have about 6 months left of him too.

I don't think it was the players at his disposal as such. But Eze has slowly been integrated and starting to grow into the game at this level, Luka has come back into the side and playing a lot better than I've seen for a while and Benteke seems to have rediscovered his mojo. I think we are seeing the benefits from that.

I am not discounting the idea that he could well be our manager next season.

He'll get stick for negative perfomances like Brighton, Chelsea, Burnley and Newcastle for example. No fan wants to see their team play 11 behind the ball with hardly any attempts on goal. Credit for the change in tactics that have seen us play more positively in the last 3 games. The players look happier too imho.

I remember when Roy came in we lost Benteke to injury which left us without a centre forward of even Championship level. He masterminded a win against Chelsea with Townsend and Zaha as inside forwards which turned things around. When this got sussed by our opponents and Benteke was fit he changed back. When Benteke couldn't score he adapted the team again and so it goes on. Things reached a real low for me on this board when we beat United away to give us six points after two games but some wanted to make excuses for our opponents and bitch about the end of last season.
