Love this in the Mail...... United offered us £42.5 million + £15 million add-on if he plays for them in the Champions League final. Palace rejected the offer, as they don't think Man U are good enough to get there

£15m when we get relegated would be a better ‘add on’. Likely to happen before the Mancs get anywhere near another Champions League. Fingers crossed for 17th place and no new stand for another season I fancy. Time for us to move on and make space for a club with a bit more ambition.

Ambition What part of the player wants the transfer and Palace need the money do people not understand? Every club loses players they want to keep, including the top clubs so why should Palace be different?

What part of we are now an established Premiership club with one of the finest home-grown players we have ever had, so why should we roll over and let a 'big' club have him for peanuts just because they want him, do you not understand? Just 'cos he wants it is quite irrelevant really as he has a contract that says differently......

I agree that every club loses players and that really every player has his price, but there have not actually been any direct quotes from either club or the player to say what is really going on. The last quotes from AWB were that he'd be with us next season. The club has said nothing about its finances or its plans. I do think he'll go simply because the figures being suggested are insane, but at the moment there are a lot of sources stating speculation as fact.

Correct. I read we've got the largest catchment area (in terms of population) in Europe. Should be turning up more players, surely? Not when they have a choice of Chelsea, Spurs,Arsenal West ham etc or category 2 Palace

How many of those lads were from the local area? It sort of kills the arguments about having a big catchment area. The Abramovich millions plundering European Academies seems more likely, I can’t see us going down that path. The notion that we should be producing more local lads in the Academy is fanciful, the chance of producing a top quality player is low. We have a better record at producing players than most with AWB and Zaha, but they don’t come along every year. there are two at Chelsea, just breaking into the national team, both local to Palace

I don't think there is anything to suggest Palace are '' rolling over '' here - in fact quite the opposite. If that were the case AWB would have gone for £25-30m a few weeks back. And whatever the final deal looks like, I wouldn't describe £50m for a full back as '' Peanuts ''. Maybe just Nuts - but that's the market these days.

A number of supposed offers have been rejected, we don’t need to sell, but everyone has a price. Times are very different from when we were in trouble under Jordan and clubs plundered us, taking our best players for peanuts. A contract only determines the price, we can achieve for a player, it’s no guarantee they are going to stay.
