It was only a joke, Christ... have we lost our sense of humour now? Whilst I appreciate everything Parish and the board has done, assembling the 18th most expensive squad in the world, when you're in the Premierleague is not hard. You could've picked any positive about what Parish has done (and I would've agreed with it, because I think Parish is great), and you pick the easiest one to do... Parish's legacy will be the ground redevelopments. Spending loads of money on first 11 players because there's been little time and investment in scouting will not be. We all know the limitations that has caused, either all over the needed positions, or enough for him to not get the ones we really need and can afford. The first 5 years have been excellent for us and what we're used to, with a sprinkling of luck having Zaha and perfect fitting managers available and ready to sign (he still had to sign them mind), but the neglect of actually building the foundations that make someone in charge truly successful is there for all to see. The next 2 years has seen the consequences of this excessive spending through lack of scouting, going without positions, only to pay more for them 6 months later and one day bringing down all of what has been achieved, which to date is loads of overpriced first 11 players, a fanzone, only 18% ownership and Americans combined having more and all of them combined, a majority. This is treading water and hoping it doesn't sink. On the football side it's almost Jordan in reverse. Spending too much on each player to stay up rather than get back up. At least there's resale value in them I'm sure Parish has planned, but that restricts ever getting back up too. Parish has been really great for 5 years, but it's been falling apart since, with actual football people coming in to correct it at great expense afterwards. For him to be 'the best chairman in history' he'll have to cement certain things that maintain the club's chances to compete and not be that team that used to be in the premier league. You can see he's beginning to do that now, and hope it works and continues even if it immediately doesn't, because without any scouting, an academy that befits how great we think we are or our chairman is and a stand or redevelopment that's been broadcasted for 7 years, it'll all have been with us ending up with nothing but memories of players on £100k a week only performing when it mattered at the last minute. There was the cup final but I think that decision to go for it that year has had knock on effects like other things have. No I'm not saying don't go for it, just that it did begin the troubles.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave He’s not beyond criticism though is he? Yes, we only have a club because of him and the others but times change and things move on. Forever indebted to him and so on. Football gives so many examples of ultra successful businessman losing it when they buy a football club. He’s learning on the job, still. We all know he likes the limelight, so when you do enjoy it so much you have the take the inevitable criticism too. Some of the stuff he’s come out with really is stupid. The spat on Twitter about the striker situation the day before De boer left. Just stupid. As the front man, he expects to receive the flak. The decisions made from above are the reason we find ourselves where we are.

If true then I'd agree however this could just be the counsellor playing to the gallery... If he had these issues than why not contact SP privately as there is still time before the announcement to sort it out A lot of fans are saying this. But Parish took it upon himself to make outlandish announcements at a fan event to try and retrieve his reputation of hero and saviour so surely the chap has every right to respond publicly.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave CRYSTAL PALACE are set to announce plans to re-develop Selhurst Park to a 40,000-capacity ground. The Premier League club have seen themselves left behind their rivals having been restricted in their matchday revenue potential by their current 26,000 stadium. Crystal Palace are looking to redevelop their Selhurst Park stadium Palace have even looked at the possibility of building a new stadium elsewhere in the area - but now seem close to deciding staying at their home of 93 years is the right decision. The club and Croydon Council have been locked in discussions over the past year over the feasibility of expanding Selhurst Park. And now they are one the verge of lodging a formal planning application early next year with the view to bringing their old ground up to modern standards. Palace chairman Steve Parish said: “This side of Christmas there will be a major announcement. “We have been working very hard for a long time to try and get the right idea and we think we have now got it. "When I came into this thing, the aim was to bring something for all of us to be proud of on the pitch and very importantly off the pitch. “We want to give everybody in Croydon and South London a stadium that we can all be proud of and not lose our atmosphere and uniqueness. Plans have to be issued before anyone can comment on them. The ball is firmly in CPFC's court Edited by Forest Hillbilly (23 Nov 2017 10.01am)

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave Let's hope this all happens. It just looks a bit unusual to make things public when there's nothing moving to make public, but then there was the 'slither of car park' comment. I think Parish is possibly going about this by publicly exposing who is the issue at each stage to get where he wants to be. Who knows if that's wise or not. Could be done in private and then release all, but what do we know, apart from the land experts on here? Or he just wanted to say something good during the consistently poor relegation form after nearly 1/3 of the season and didn't think it over first.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Stadium plans' by bexleydave Hmmm crowds of 18,000 in a 40,000 seat stadium when we again relegated. Stevie boy - what are you like? 33,000 will be fine for us considering our highest ever average attendance is just shy of 30,000. Anyways, it won't happen. The salesman has hot air coming out of more than one orifice.

However it does seem to me that 40k had been plucked out of thin air by the paper. I think we'll get something closer to your 30k seats

As I understand it pre Hillsborough 40 odd years ago, we could get crowds of up to 50,000. Not "up to" but "over"
