The Sash makes a fair point. But, Farage (though positioning himself as an establishment outsider) strikes me as a politician as just another chip off the same old block, cleverly hoovering up disaffected vote. Just like consummate modern day presidential candidates in the USA like to try and position themselves as outsiders from the Washington DC establishment...

10,000 European Union officials better paid than David Cameron:

Good value in Gusset-world

Pretty meaningless statistic, but at least you should say whether they should be paid less or Cameron should be paid more. Then the debate can start.

Totally agree

Obama for example campaigned on 'Change'...when he is the same corporate puppet in the same hock to big business and the miltary of all those who gone before him - his only angle was that he was Black and therefore different - Farages angle is that he isnt a 'politician' - of course he is...

Obama's healthcare bill was very radical to be fair and has changed things for the better for tens of millions.

The rest is spot on. Corporate playthings indeed.

Farage is the same as the rest. 0r will be the more power he gets. He is the establishment. He's not going to upset too many apple carts. Surprised so many have allowed themselves to believe otherwise.

They're getting carried away. What will it really amount to though? Reality awaits.

Personally If I could I would have voted for Bob crows (RIP)party regarding europe.
Not racist but just trying to support British workers.
EEU was not what British people voted to join in the seventies.
What was voted on was the EEC (European Economic Community) which is far from the federalist undemocratic gravy boat for retired overpaid politicians.

Like most of the people I speak with, I could not profess to having a full understanding of the EU and so rely on what I read and my own intuition.

The only article I have read for either side which seemed reasonable and not smothered in emotive statements was this one in the Independent: [Link]

This thread is basically a muck slinging one in which neither side is likely to find enlightenment and I'm sure none of us suddenly switched sides. I think most people can agree that the political landscape is pretty bleak at the moment but what we disagree on is what UKIP represent.

I think for some, including me, we are concerned at what UKIP potentially represent, which is wealthy bigots using people like Farrage to get them access to Parliament and allow them to introduce policy which would allow them to protect their vested interests. As with all right wing parties they attack minorities as the source of all evil and use the working classes rather than help them. The ideology (if it can be called one) is that if you make the wealthy richer then they'll drag everyone else up with them. The chasm between the wealthy and rest is only increasing and shows this to be a falsehood.

On the other side, the major parties offer nothing. They lack character and ideas and I feel that many voters only stay with them due to either fear of parties such as UKIP, or just because they don't see a real alternative.

I voted Green. I don't agree with all their policies, but they are as close to appealing to my sensibilities of any of the parties.

I had a lot of time for Bob Crowe on this.

A government should have a contract between itself and its citizens. They should come first, not be equal to immigrants......This has been lost with all the main parties.

If you let poor immigrants in they need housing and they need jobs.....Building houses is damn expensive and social housing in this country for the vulnerable is already at desperate levels.

God save us from egalitarians and their philosophy which would turn this country into a crowded nightmare with even less housing for the working classes and lower paid jobs for them as well due to increased competition.

Only our media would say that UKIP 'won' the council elections.
If anything, Labour did best gaining control of 6 new councils. How many councils are UKIP running?

TUSC got a couple of seats which isn't bad considering they've only been going a couple of years.

For f***s sake give it up.

UKIP won this by a large margin.

You lost.

Deal with it.
