But next year they will leave for nothing, even £5m each this year must be better and £200k a week off wage bill

I do not disagree with that statement - trouble is who would pay anything for either of them?
Sakho is always on the sick bench and Benteke is a centre forward who is unable to score goals.

IMO we got our money’s worth out of YC, Luka not been the same player since he left

I 100% agree with that.
YC was amazing value and Luka needs similar to get the best out of himself.

I think we have a story coming this week with more details, but Fraser and Watkins also definitely players the club like (at the right price) and have done the relevant background and due diligence on

I think a club like Lille would buy Sakho for £5-£10m. Regarding Benteke, as we have seen from another player, he would probably score s***loads in Turkey so would be good value to one of their clubs for £5m.
Off the wall suggestion, throw him in any deal for Edouard at Celtic. Him and James M + £15m IMO Tekkers would score for fun in Scotland

Hadn't thought of Benteke in a Celtic deal, but what a good idea. Sakho for £5m? I don't see any takers for such an injury prone player

Problem is the wages. Celtic would struggle to pay him £20,000 a week. We wouldn’t complain at that but he probably would.

Benteke won't go to Celtic. Too cold for a start!!
They should however offer him £20k a week and £80,000 for each goal he scores. We should have done that in hindsight!!

Three players linked this morning - Buendia , Maitlind Niles and Harry Wilson.
Buendia is in my view not a Hodgson type player.
Skilful playmaker but lacking physicality and not inclined to track back.
Wilson has not particularly impressed other than his free kicks which are excellent. Could be another expensive mistake of a purchase from Liverpool if we were to pursue.
Maitlind Niles would make sense.
Young, pacy, versatile with good skills and physicality.
If we were to get him, Eze and a winger( Samuel?) and striker (Edouard?) that would represent a decent window along with the addition of Ferguson
I’m not holding my breath though.

It will be interesting to see the net spend of each prem club when transfer window closes. My guess is that each club will look to end up with a zero spend. I cant see us spending on 2 or 3 players without being confident that we can recoup the same amount with sales.

What is this progress people are talking about?

Is staying still progress? Avoiding relegation year on year? If so, we can't argue that we are in the most successful period in Palace's history.

I remember reading an article about how Pardew's reign had left us in a difficult position with lack of depth and high wages. So is staying up whilst knocking off £500k/week in wages "progress"?

We seemed to suffer with lack of recovery time post lockdown. So is progress about reducing our average age?

Zaha is going to go, so is Hodgson - so is maintaining our Premier League status without Zaha and Hodgson progress?

There is now more momentum behind the idea that progress can be attained and measured by looking purely at statistics (a la Brentford) so is that a way to achieve progress?

Every business I have been involved in starts with a mission / purpose / strategy and then looks at how it will spread its resources to deliver. If ours is to sign players who will do just enough to keep us up then all well and good - but it does seem that a lot of the false dawns are driven by click bait stories of players who just do not fit into Palace's strategy. That said I am not certain what that strategy is.
