What are your thoughts on the Mangala signing at an initial £18m ,rising to £23m as an alternative to signing Sakho ?? Is this really a good alternative for us, given his reported £120,000 per week.

Agreed! The Mangala bid now seems the more likely, and the Sakho bid diminishing in likelihood (sob, sob!)

Thank god not another thread. The jury is out until he plays. But the £35k extra in wages to what Sakho's on now is £1.8 mil a year. I don't know of Sakho's wage demands but id be surprised if he was demanding £120k in his position.

Apparently nothing yet "No deals over the line yet at Crystal Palace, but two players are expected to depart. Our reporter Michael Bridge gives us the latest developments... “Crystal Palace should be bringing in players today but not for a few hours yet. “In terms of players that could be going out, I understand Jordon Mutch will be going out on loan to Burton Albion. “Another popular player, Jonny Williams, has left the Wales training camp and is expected to join Sunderland on loan.”"

Funnily enuff the odds on us signing Sakho just went from 3 / 1 on to 4 / 1 on and West Brom have gone out to 14 / 1. I read somewhere that the Board might countenance expenditure over and above the budget on the basis that it's worth it if they can recoup the money at some point. So although a three-year deal with Sakho might be a sunk cost we might reasonably get our money back and maybe more on Mangala.

Does anybody know exactly what he did to his knee? Maybe it was more serious than we know about and having put up with Chamakh, Remy and Wickham in recent years the board don't fancy a £30 million punt on a potential sick note. I'm sure a lot doesn't make it into the public domain about such things.

Much as one part of me would like to see us sign Sakho, it'll serve the bin dippers right if they get stuck with him. They have thought all window they have us by the short and curlies from a supply and demand standpoint but at the end of the day they've not had huge interest elsewhere so maybe should have accepted a bid from us rather than bleeding more money through wages on a player that, at this point, is basically never going to play for them.

If we were to sign Mangala I could actually see the likes of West Brom having a bid of 25m accepted for Sakho as Liverpool would have no other takers. I very much hope this is not how things pan out as it would be completely depressing from every angle. Edited by samprior (31 Aug 2017 4.25pm)

Scored the opening goal, got a yellow card 10’ later, then a straight red 5’ later. He’s got discipline issues, but is pretty stable on the back and should improve Palace. Sahko just would have done it without the card issues."

As things stand this is the ultimate lose-lose-lose situation. Liverpool lose as they continue to have a player they don't want costing them money each week, we lose as we end up with an inferior product instead and Mama loses because he's stuck continuing to play for the Bin Dippers reserve team.
