I see they're (The BBC) holding a songs of praise at one of the migrant camp's churches. How ludicrous. The BBC point scoring again. Look, I feel sorry for some of these people but there is NO ROOM!!

What exactly is your issue with SOP being held there?

#confused

I suppose the Christian church has to try and recruit from somewhere since their numbers are virtually non existent.
Unfortunately we are importing some even dafter religious loons from abroad to make up for it.

Oh joy.

Edited by TheJudge (17 Aug 2015 12.48pm)

We have enough arrogant, self righteous and rude religious loons here already.

Oh my, the absolute blissful and bountiful irony of this post.

1) SOP didn't go there to recruit, silly statement. The church exists to care for the needy, who are more needy than those in Calais (cue loads of wailing with inferred racism about 'looking after those at home')
2) The Christian church continues to grow worldwide, despite terrible persecution by other religions
3)The decline in church attendances in this country long ago stopped and is now increasing, driven by immigration , and also the growth of more modern Pentecostal churches such as Hillsong and Hope City
4)The arrogance, self righteousness and rudeness on these boards flows in spades from those opposed to religion and is met always by polite responses from those like myself, who do have faith.

Its quite laughable if it wasn't so sad.

You are aware that pride is a sin?

Of course you were....Your superior knowledge of the Bible and all that......You aren't arrogant at all are you?

You rude....never....Maybe those previous posts were from a different 'reborn'.

Indeed they were, but then theres not much point explaining to you how/why is there Stirling

Quite how correcting gross inaccuracies constitutes arrogance is beyond me sorry,

Anyway, I'm off now, this is no place for anyone talking sense..oh and facts.
God bless.

Hmmm. This has got old before it's barely started.

It could fall below my threshold of bothering to respond before too long.

You are interpreting stats to fit your political viewpoint..It's almost boring...For example, Germany takes more because its a larger country than us.....Also when you say they get less money coming here you're playing around with margins.

Here they get more chance of a job and housing than in other EU countries.

Hopefully at some stage the infrastructure pressure and housing situation affects yourself.....Maybe your tune would change somewhat.

Only if they get granted leave to stay and or permanent residence. My suspicion would be that if illegal migrants, without a hope of refugee or asylum status, are coming here specifically, its because there is a good reputation for work for illegals.

I suspect that those non-asylum migrants in Calais many are people who were previously rejected from French Asylum, and or have been working illegally in France for some time prior. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Calasis and the surrounding areas have a history of employing illegal workers.

If they're coming here for the housing and money, they're deluded (although at present those detained crossing from France are being housed in Travelodges - its because there is no room remaining in detention centers.

I think there's a massive difference between people's perception of what's happening and actual facts. Especially considering some headlines of late that are total be followed the next day with a tiny space in the corrections and clarifications section. People only see the headlines and believe them.

That's want worries me. This vastly secular society doesn't want more religious nut jobs and delusionals causing trouble and indoctrinating the young and gullible.

I am strongly against the indoctrination of the vulnerable.

Its the nationalist nut jobs that worry me; even more than the religious ones

You need to adjust your blinkers.

Nationalism has nothing to do with a desire to encourage and protect the mostly secular society that we have fought so hard to achieve.

It's the delusional internationalists that worry me, like believers in the EU - doomed to failure.

Isn't the UK, by its very nature, internationalist, having consisted previously of the UK and Commonwealth, The Empire and long back, the Union of four different countries and cultures (and back before then Wales and Scotland).

Its been a very long time since it was a isolationist single nation.

Your examples prove my point. The Commonwealth is nothing really these days (bit like the UN in that respect) and riven by divisions. The Empire of course came apart largely in violent insurgencies. Members of the UK, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland seek independence. In all your examples nationalism reasserts itself. Trying to create artificial 'nations' of different races, religions, language and culture is doomed to failure.
