That’s not true at all. I call things for what they are all the time. Nuance is important. I applauded the chancellors announcements on Friday (despite also thinking they didn’t go far enough for the self employed), I also applauded Trumps plans of a £1000 tax rebate for the whole country. That was a fantastic move from him despite his other areas of mismanagement in this crisis. Of course I hope my family and I get a bed should we need it, as I hope anyone else that needs one gets a bed. Who wouldn’t?... still if it’s easier for you to attach a label to me and ignore the clear mismanagement from our government I’ve raised then fair enough. I won’t bother wasting my time in the future if you’re not interested in actual discussion. If you think my point about using private beds as and when needed rather than spending for decades is worth discussion it's your choice.

Trump was the furthest from my mind posting this, this is about freedom and truth in China. Edited by Stirlingsays (22 Mar 2020 11.11pm)

Hearing about the couple that went to Italy to come home to self isolate really made me realise we might have a problem. Unless they helicopter themselves from Italy to their home they’re causing a problem even if they think they’re being responsible in self isolating. Then there’s the private schools that returned from skiing in northern Italy, only to let those children return to a full school before sending them home to self isolate. It’s a shame the virus doesn’t discriminate against the stupid and selfish.

The use of such draconian austerity was opposed by many as far too extreme. Trying to run too fast for political purposes. So we ended up with hugely weakened public services. Many elements affected the healthcare system. Care Homes are on their knees due to the underfunding of local authorities. Social workers were massively impacted. So we get bed blocking. We now have one of the worst ratios of doctors and nurses to our population of any developed country. I suppose that’s the fault of nobody.

This is fake news from Trump’s favourite basketball player. The woman didn’t die for crumbs sake. She was deeply upset for sure but I can find no evidence she was ‘disappeared’ as proposed.

Muslim grandparents living with the family are going down with it badly on the stats relatively and dying in Britain. Similar to Italy and Spain's reasons I reckon.

Have you found evidence for her then? As reporting in China isn't exactly transparent is it.

Fair point re: stress levels and I don’t wish to raise levels of anxiety unnecessarily. My worry is if we don’t point out these issues now, once this is over and the dust has settled we go back to doing the same. There is going to be a serious increase in spending to combat this, and my concern is that once this is all finished they use the crisis as excuse for another 10 years of austerity. I do echo my original sentiments though regarding the U.K. population acting like idiots stems from weak leadership. You can’t ‘advise’ people not to go to the pubs, you tell them as leader don’t go. They should be running public health videos in every advert break explaining the risks of spreading etc. We have had 5/6 years of dialogue in the media in the U.K. about not listening to experts/politicians so I’m not surprised that the public are still ignoring expert advice. To clarify that’s not a snipe about brexit more Gove’s remarks ‘I think we’ve had enough of experts’ etc.

Yeah, and about 5 weeks ago a guy called 5 live to say he had been in that region in china that was in lockdown, and before he left he called the foreign office to say he"s leaving and should he do anything when he returns? They replied just go home and stay in for a week! He did, but got tube from heathrow to kings cross, then a train to Leeds! Said he didn"t think he had the virus, but if he did, then a whole tube carriage and train could have it to!If that happened to thousands of others, some who do have it, imagine the needless spreading that could have been avoided with testing at airport and isolation!
