I'm just saying, snowflakes probably would have not got involved.
Fireworks childish I agree, but so was throwing bog rolls on the pitch and all over the stand surges in the stand well frightening sometimes- back in the day.

As for flags and dress, C'mon man?been part of English football since flares/bell bottoms to casuals.
Who is old enough to remember taking a flag to a game 70's80's- only for the bamboo stick part to be confiscated by plod, because it could be used as an offensive weapon.
So, fans stopped bringing them.
Some fans memories on here are letting them down, or they have grumpy old man syndrome.
Also, forget the drum... We used to have a bugle player starting all the songs in the holmesdale. Who remembers that?

Can we have one game where we bring back the old habit of throwing toilet rolls onto the pitch?

At school, in our woodwork project, we all had to make a rattle, because they were popular at football games those days.

A rattle - if there's any readers here who weren't around in the days of Black and White television - was a weird device that sort of rotated around a stick and made a clacking noise.

It was thought to help generate a sense of excitement.

There also used to be a man with a sort of hollowed out oil drum, full of hot coals, on top which he'd roast chestnuts. They were lovely too.

(I'm not making this up)

There were two chanting traditions that seem to have died out too.

The slow hand clap (which was a fantastic way of demoralising the players even more, when things weren't going well).

The other popular chant, which seemed to be used at every game when I was a kid, went like this:

"bert Head out! Bert Head out!"

You try telling that to the Holmesdale Fanatics, and they'd just laugh at you.

I tried to get the old Bert Head out chant going at a game once, and everyone just stared at me, like I was a lunatic.

What a wonderful trip down memory lane. However, you've forgotten the great days of the Stanley knife. What fun it was attending matches - especially away matches against Millwall!
