There is a touch of the Rachel Dolezal about her claims.

In her early years she claimed to be part-Native American, because she was told by her family that she was part-Native American. She has never benefitted from programs specifically for Native Americans and has since dropped the claim because she does not know if it's true or not.

Ex-Senator and ex-nude male model Scott Brown tried to use this as an issue when the two contested Brown's senate seat in 2012. She beat him 54 to 46. Warren has gone on to be a loud progressive voice in the Senate; Brown has gone on to disgrace himself as the US Ambassador to New Zealand. [Link]

I don't think that Trump referring to her as Pocahontas (who is the only famous female native American) after she erroneously, or falsely, said that she is part native American. Her story about being told that by her family is a convenience. She was making these claims well into her 40s and beyond.

It's not a racial slur toward her IMO, and neither is it detrimental to Pocahontas. It's taking the mickey out of a long standing and public mistake.

Really only famous for being the Disney character. I'd like to think that the president of the US would know who Cora Anderson was, but it might be expecting a bit much for Drumpf

I haven't refused to answer a question. How on earth am I'm expected to know about every situation where Trump gets involved in silly name calling?

I cited Sanders as an opponent who doesn't buy into the 'hate' opposition to Trump. I have no doubt that there are others.

What I am referring to and criticising are those that use language that far exceeds normal discourse on Trump.

Those who complain about Trump but are a bit of Trump themselves. or often in excess....Hypocrisy.

Is it racist, maybe, maybe not, but its very demeaning and disrespectful to a person, to refer to them in such a manner rather than by their own name.

Bit of a diversion, but mentioning Pocahontas reminds me of this ...

Racist or not, It'd be like harassing a woman by constantly calling her Rosa Parks or Laquisha if she stated that she has some black ancestry. I mean what's the point? Sure some might get a thrill out of it because they see it as being anti PC or anti progressive, but it's still pointless and mean and that shouldn't be credit to a person, or something to applaud. It's just one of the many nods and winks to a section of supporters who get off on or are comforted by demeaning certain groups of people.

It can be funny or unfunny depending of what your sense of humour is, but it's a core part of how he communicates to people about various groups and is very deliberate.

Sure......it's a mockery of them and meant to offend.

That's pretty much it. Accusations of racism for stuff like that are progressive sensitivities as usual.

"You start out in 1954 by saying, "N*gger, n*gger, n*gger." By 1968, you can't say "n*gger" — that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states' rights and all that stuff. You're getting so abstract now [that] you're talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites. And subconsciously maybe that is part of it. I'm not saying that. But I'm saying that if it is getting that abstract, and that coded, that we are doing away with the racial problem one way or the other. You follow me — because obviously sitting around saying, "We want to cut this," is much more abstract than even the busing thing, and a hell of a lot more abstract than "N*gger, n*gger."

That appears to be how political strategy and policy still works in the US today really. Of course it's mirrored on the left to some extent too. Trump's constants nods and winks and snipes at certain groups are the social component of this really, comfort to those uncomfortable with pretty basic and benign difference really. It's not particularly well disguised and is a cheap and easy way to get people onside as we see here.
