Of course he is….if it was your last payday wouldn’t you ?

The shocking thing is that he’s holding us to ransome and dictating our transfer plans….and we are happy to let him.

Then he should f*** off and hold someone else to randsome , he knows the state of our finances and go dictate somewhere else , we don't need a dictator and no if i was a multi millionaire i would f***ing retire and live on a big f*** off yacht and enjoy my legendary status instead of dragging it through the muck .

Are you having a laugh, he left us on our promotion season, and now nobody decent wants him on a free, he would be off like "s**t off a shovel" if right club had come in for him, and what about Joel Ward, maybe he should have a bonus

And here was I thinking he returned on loan to finish the season, scored twice at Brighton in the semi finals to rescue a cause many pundits felt was lost, then ran Watford ragged at Wembley, getting the penalty and carrying the fight, all when a lot of players would have been focused on avoiding injury once they had got their big move.

Must've dreamt all that.

No he didn't, he signed for utd under the condition he remained on loan untill the end of season, then pretty much single handedly got us promoted and apart from Pulis is pretty much the only reason we've remained in this league.

Do you think any player is here because they want to be ? If a big club comes in for any of our players, their head is getting turned, the same if we go for any championship player or if no current player is good enough, they get sold, it's competitive sport at the highest level. Like any player dreams of playing for palace, wolves, Fulham, Brighton etc, they're here because of the strength of our league and the money we pay, tho mainly due to money hence the amount of players who are now heading to Saudi.

If any player deserves a bit of loyalty from the club then it's zaha. I've no doubt he would still be our most influential attacking player next season If he signed.

Agreed

is a 5 year contract on £130k not the club showing him loyalty??
I suspect he has been the best paid player outside the top 6 clubs for the last 5 years.
IMHO loyalty works both ways and Palace have treated him very well.
The club and the various managers have treated him with kid gloves over the years too and have never criticised him in public, even during the 1st covid season when he essentially sulked the whole season and generally looked disinterested after his moves to Arsenal/Everton were rejected.
I'd love him to stay, but on terms that suit both parties and are within the club's current wage structure

Neither the club or the player has ever shown 'loyalty' to each other. The club gave Zaha his most recent contract for the same reason they gave him his first: in light of the options available, his employment was beneficial to the club. Zaha signed his most recent contract for the same reason he signed his first: in light of the options available, it was beneficial to him.

The moment one party ceases to be the best option for the other they will be dropped like a stone. Ask any of the lads Palace release every year, especially those who have come through the youth system and are local lads, how 'loyal' Palace are.

It's a business. It's a career. The affection gets projected over the top of that but only for 90 minutes. Come Monday morning the club and player must make sensible commercial decisions, and whilst I'm sure the affection Zaha proclaims for Palace is as genuine as that the club and supporters have for him, neither party should expect 'loyalty' from the other, because neither have ever offered it themselves.

bigtoe, whilst i agree with a lot of what you say you are clearly a glass half empty man.

There is clearly some loyalty in football and i think SP and Palace have shown that repeatedly over the years. Perhaps too much

Just off the top of my head - new contracts for players to review effort/loyalty e.g. Paddy Mac when regularly injured, Peter Ramage after promotion despite it being clear he wouldn't play a game in the Prem, Jonny Williams, Ryan Inniss and perhaps we can now add Fergie to that list etc etc.

As for Wilf don't forget he agreed a £110k 5 year contract only the year before we upgraded it to £130k to ensure he was higher paid that Benteke.

Single-handedly got us promoted? We had a squad full of heroes that season, including Murray who banged in 30 goals.

Also bizarre that the only other person you've namechecked as being 'the only reason we've stayed in the league' is Pulis? I mean he did well before trying to screw us over but really? Even if you're just talking managers I think Roy, Big Sam and Vieira have all played a massive part.

The notion that any disloyalty has been shown to Zaha is baffling. He's the best paid player in our history and has been beloved by our fanbase despite trying to engineer an exit during most summer transfer windows in recent years, including chucking in a transfer request about 2 days before one season started. And we've still offered him a huge contract that will take him well past his best on enormous money.

If he goes, he goes and he'll always be, arguably, our best ever players. If he stays then great, hopefully lots more magic moments to come. But the current limbo is an absolute nonsense, needs to end ASAP and it's not disrespectful to say so.

According to this click-bait, Wilf has a choice between us & Fernerbahce. They are only in the Thurs night Europa League for next season . . . [Link]

A minor point, but presumably WZ has already 'lost' tens of thousands in pay by not being in contract. I'm sure he's got a few bob tucked away for a rainy day, though, and won't be applying for Jobseeker's Allowance.

If the players we are supposed to sign, sign, with a fit squad he wont get in the team.
