I think it depends upon how its been integrated - if its a cast iron rule or if its a guideline consideration where there is the possibility where every case is decided upon its merits - in which case who decided which merits are more relevant ? As others have said how will they handle the Zaha situation, perhaps offer him a new deal whilst still 29 ? Additionally how many other guideline rulings are there (that we haven't heard about within the club) which could be effected by either upholding or an eroding of this one ? Difficult to say - But at the moment it seems as though the club is insisting on it being a one year deal & presumably the player is insisting that he wants more security than that - bit of a stalemate but the clock is ticking / the season is starting & presumably the club have a plan to go forward without him if necessary. I don’t the bit about wanting security? He has played in the Premier for 8 years, guessing his average wage over that period is £50k a week, he will of earnt £20m in wages. I don’t think he needs to worry about security.

Hmm, I see no floodgate issue here. 2/3 players a season will be able to make that case; only if they want to; and the club will consider it on its merits. 2 years works well with me for Kouyate. Does not take him past Jimmy Mac's age (or does it?). I guess it also depends on if the club think we'll need him season after this. CD has effectively taken his CDM place. With Richards, we also now have some CB cover. If we continue to recruit well, there is a good chance that he wont make that bench let alone the team in 23/34.

Certainly some valid points made earlier & below - it will be interesting to see how it unfolds - Originally posted by MrRobbo

Got ousted by competition and fancied an attempt at international success via AFCON. Is Eze a likely member of the England team with Sterling, Saka, Mount, Bowen, Foden, Grealish, Rashford, Gallagher, Smith-Rowe, Maddison etc. etc. all going for the same spots? I certainly wouldn't say it's likely that he'd be in line for regular game time at tournaments, same with Olise at France. May make the squad, may not. Eze is eligible for Nigeria, Olise is for Algeria & Nigeria. Kouyate would have a backup role and therefore be pencilled in for playing at times such as when key players are at AFCON. With McArthur's age in 2024, Kouyate's role with Senegal has to be a factor because we're better off de-risking by having a group of non-AFCON eligible midfielders.

Evening All, 2 more in-comings before close of window both possible loans unless something else becomes available as there is still around £15m to £20m to spend. 2 loans looking very likely now are: AWB with option to buy

It wouldn't surprise me if attempts were made to loan both AWB and Gallagher.

More to security than just an amount in the bank - For most players I would think that playing in the PL (or the highest league that they are capable of playing in) is something that they want to do for as long as possible, taking a 12 month contract now means that there is a definitive line in the sand, they are all around the negotiating table at the end of next season, the player is a year older, the club has moved on & any number of things could have happened during that time -the player would likely have more challenges finding a new club & a new beginning at 33 than at 32.
