I'm glad it was not only me that noticed some of the immigrants were wearing top of the range trainers and were using the latest mobile phones to direct them to the next border. Some of the ladies were pushing state of the art buggies. Doesn't quite correlate with the images of refugees seen in the photos post World War ll.Those in the camps seem far more genuine, and I support Cameron in this. I was particularly annoyed at the sight of some "refugees" holding up a poster in a train carriage on the German/Danish border which said something like "We don't want Denmark, we want Sweden". No wonder the Danes want nothing to do with them.We should keep well out of all this.

I agree entirely sickboy, but what is the chance of them returning to Syria/Afghanistan etc once the fighting has finished? Very slim I would suggest. Tracking them down and processing them for deportation would be expensive and almost impossible. Realistically then, once you have taken them in you will have to accept them as potentially new citizens. This may suit Germany and Sweden for economic reasons but I find the prospect unattractive.

Actually that's the norm, temporary residence is granted. However after a period of five years, they'd be entitled to citizenship (having likely built a life here etc). Plus just because the civil war ends, doesn't automatically mean its safe to go home (Likely outcome is either the Assad Regime or IS will come out on top).

It looks as though Germany has reintroduced border controls and suspended the Schengen agreement tonight after being overwhelmed with migrants.

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |

I thought Angela was one of the 'immigration is an unmitigated blessing that bestows untold benefits' brigade(along with Corbyn). That being the case, why does she want controls? What problems does she perceive that makes her want controls? Surely she should be calling for even more immigration? Edited by leggedstruggle (13 Sep 2015 8.31pm)

'...and also includes an effective control of our own borders which also no longer works given the EU's complete failure to protect its external borders' A bit of tension beginning to bubble up to the surface?

If you're in a war zone, where does this idea come from that the only viable option is to move to the next country over from the war zone. Of course many do that, but those who don't may do so for a multitude of reasons, perceived safety being one of them - not only 'financial reasons'.

I'm glad lots of our boy's and girls never did a runner in WW1 and WW2, and many other conflicts before and after those two. I wonder where we would be right now if everyone did one and didn't stand up for the freedom we enjoy today a.
