Mrs ok. excellent. hope the recovery is full. ^^^ Good comments, particularly from Wisbech Close family members (of mine) are teachers in schools. One pupil told her friend "I'm going for a sleepover this weekend at ......'s house". When you have reckless parents arranging stuff like this with (largely) asymptomatic kids, it just make me angry. One pupil told her friend "I'm going for a sleepover this weekend at ......'s house". When you have reckless parents arranging stuff like this with (largely) asymptomatic kids, it just make me angry. And yet there’s been no crisis in supermarkets all year. There was a farmers’ market in London yesterday. It was full. No masks and no police presence. In central London people were getting the baton for peaceful protest. I agree that indoor close contact meets are where viruses infect. It’s always been the case. But asymptomatic infection apparently isn’t happening as was originally thought, and that’s coming from respected organisations. [Link] It probably is to some level, unless it’s just pre-symptom infection, but it isn’t to the level you avoid everyone like the plague, so schools being open but not having sleepovers I’d agree with. You can’t assume an infection has happened because breached lockdown. People have to and have been working all year. The one thing you can count on is that lower socioeconomic areas are a higher risk because of either work or property situations, or ignorance/not giving a sh1t. You then get ludicrous borders in between Oxted and Westerham when the issue is a problem elsewhere if people are ignoring all guidance. Edited by Rudi Hedman (29 Nov 2020 1.30pm)

Thank you. He did not previously apply as he was lucky enough to have £6000 in savings, so therefore did not qualify ( maybe we are too honest and shouldn’t have divulged the savings!). These have now gone and therefore he has just applied, we await with anticipation. I was surprised to read this so I looked up the limits. Apparently it's only when you, and/or your partner, have more than £16,000 that you don't qualify at all. Whether for the maximum I don't know but it must be worth reviewing. I fully understand how lucky we are here and how tough it is for those in the cities. There must though be some way to get some kind of exercise in the fresh(ish) air, without too much danger.

Well done. It's this type of community spirit which will protect us all.

This is the point; lots of people don’t see any mitigation. In the Eighties many unemployed people went into the service industries which are now laying them off. This is why they are afraid - not of the virus but of how they’re going to get a job when this is finally over and their bills and mortgages still have to be paid. I understand the issue and so do, I think, the government, the MPs, the unions and trade associations. Support is being provided and is, so far as I can see, becoming more focussed. There will be casualties though as nothing will cover every eventuality. I know the Supreme Court were reviewing the refusal of the insurance companies to meet business interruption claims and don't know if that has yet been determined. If they are forced to pay up then everything gets better as we share the cost in increased renewal premiums.

Adopting a Herod-type stance at Christmas, I think any infectious child should be killed and their dumb-@r5e parents too.

When have shop workers been defended by their union? It’ll be worse for anyone in the hospitality industries. They’re mostly well and truly stuffed unless they get more furlough, and after that? Then there’s small businesses that can’t survive either.
