Prison Places ? In Ireland we now have some shocking examples of soft punishments for nasty crimes. And yet, our Government is determined to crucify those who protested the kids stabbed by an Algerian at a Primary School.

No one should be in fear because of their skin colour, whatever it is, or wherever they live. That she said it now, when those with darker skins are being racially abused in some places, is to reassure them. It doesn’t alter the underlying principle. The attempts by some, including a few here, to categorise and divide society by the colour of their skin, and then to try to present a dominant group as victims, is a very significant factor in why we have problems. Judge the person. Not the shell they inhabit.

So if we don't draw conclusions from ethnic minorities attacking the population, as Badger pointed out yesterday in his list, then it appears that there is no such thing as racism anymore. Colour of skin, ethnicity etc is irrelevant. I look forward to that category of crime being removed from the list of criminal offences.

Ethnic minorities are not attacking the population. Individuals are committing crimes. The colour of their skin, or ethnicity, is completely irrelevant. Every criminal has a skin colour and an ethnicity. That groups of criminals form within communities is nothing new. Nor is the need to take action to deal with them, but that doesn’t mean that the whole community should be tarred with the same brush. This also doesn’t mean that racism doesn’t exist. Indeed it confirms it does because classifying people by skin colour or ethnicity is precisely what it is.
