Here is a video on how well Japan is coping with this virus. Also an island nation country and one that is far nearer to China. There are lots of lessons to be learned. Edited by Stirlingsays (22 Mar 2020 5.25pm)

I mean he ran an entire campaign on the basis that there weren’t enough resources in the NHS, of course now the seams are starting to rip he is going to double down this viewpoint. Prediction: by this time next month, people asking questions about decisions made in March will be branded in large parts of the media and popular discourse as selfish and disrespectful of the dead, scoring petty political points off a national tragedy. Meanwhile the people who allowed this to fester will be shielded by the press.

I have not perused the link, however I had heard on the radio that in normal times the number of deaths in the UK from flu and related illnesses over a same period is around 8,000 and our experts have asserted that the Covid-19 death toll could rise to 20,000 as a minimum and could greatly exceed this number if people do not heed the advice. The thing with this disease is it multiplies.

They would be mortified to read your opinion that the current pandemic is no worse than your standard flu. The NHS is almost at breaking point and they are treating patients who picked up the virus 10 days ago. It was barely on our radar 10 days ago. This will get drastically worse to the point that there won’t be room to treat the sick. This is serious and needs to be treated as such by everybody. Not respecting the governments request to stay at home is wreckless and selfish. The next wave of this virus is going to shock a lot of people. It could be as bad as Italy if people take chances socialisingbin holiday mode.

Edited by Stirlingsays (22 Mar 2020 5.25pm) Ridiculous, they have coped well as a result of them aggressively identifying clusters and containing the spread. They learnt their lesson from the first SARS outbreak. German has huge levels of migration and haven’t seen anyway near the level of deaths we have vs cases. This is a result of aggressive testing identifying actual cases and quarantining as early as possible.

With the closing of pubs, restaurants, gyms etc and high street and other shops deciding to close temporarily, I believe the stark reality is hitting home to the population at large. Today I was informed a cash point was taped up as it is deemed that handling money could add to the spread of Covid-19 and a shop in which I entered was only accepting card transactions. I hear that petrol pumps are also deemed a risk.I fear additional draconian measures could be down the track.

You watch the news and you see beaches rammed, snowden rammed, markets rammed, parks rammed. This clearly is going to get a whole lot worse and soon. We need it to start pissing down again

The video reveals several truths why they are faring a lot better. Germany has many current cases of the virus at 24, 806....96 deaths and 83 million people. Japan....which is close to China....has 1086 cases and 36 deaths.....It has 126 million people and Tokyo is one of the most populated cities on earth.
