The Weed have got money to spend. WE have to be careful with ours, BUT we still seem to make it more difficult than it needs to be. Brighton are currently £236m in debt, BEFORE the lock down. Sure, this mostly to the owners but FFP places limits even on this. The lock down means ALL clubs face reduced revenue now and going forward, the owners may have to "loan" even more to meet this shortfall. How willing they will be to spend another £50m on new players, without selling, remains to be seen.

’m being told that his signing could coincide with the release of the new kit for the season that’s why we are holding off releasing the kit. I have been told we are in for a further 3 attacking minded players & possibly a defender. Brentford’s game tonight will also decide on our options as if they win promotion we will change our target to the guy at Celtic if they lose then we will be in for Watkins. McCarthy looks like he is going could form part of the deal with Celtic? Be patient we will sign 3-4 players.

I’d prefer Edouard to Watkins and not that I’m keen on selling him but I could see McCarthy being an ideal signing for Celtic if I’m honest.

OMG what are we doing? If the rumours (doubt) are true this to me shows a complete lack of sense. Sell Wilf 30m???? Covid or No Covid why oh why did we not cash in last season? Wilf is finished with us and was so last season. Now we will lose Eze to WH or somebody else, sorry for the negativity!! We were only offered about £45 mil by Arsenal, spread over about 7 transfer windows and probably in coppers.

I genuinely thought that too but an article in the Sun by Mark Irwin last week (July 30th) clearly stated we rejected two bids from Everton after the Arsenal bid...one of £52M and the second of £70M Plus James McCarthy?!!! Surely this isn’t true?! ’Arsenal’s £40m bid was rejected out of hand last summer after former boss Unai Emery made Zaha his No1 Emirates target.  But the Gunners are no longer in the market after overruling Emery’s wishes to pay a club-record £72m for Nicolas Pepe. Big-spending Everton also had a £52m bid turned down before returning with an improved £70m offer plus midfielder James McCarthy in part exchange on the eve of the transfer deadline. Yet that was also rejected by Palace because there was no time to sign a replacement, leading to disappointed Zaha parting company with his agent.’

There's a fair bit which suggests Everton upper their bid to about £55m + Tosun on the last day. Nothing suggests those payments wouldn't have been massively spread out. Looking back now, we may well have been okay had we taken that deal. I'd bite their hand off for it now. However, at the time I think we'd have all seen that as relegation. We also, probably, would have wasted the money on Alex Iwobi.
