Maybe. Im indifferent to social changes, as i see it as a sort of evolutionary constant, as in if you managed to live in england between 1700 and 1780, there would have been a social change, maybe not so much in regards to immigration, but quite probably in thought and behavioural acceptability. I would also imagine it is the same in Africa, North America, Asia, etc. Change is a constant, imo, not a variable. I'd agree that some ideas evolve, though not all. Any reading of historical literature shows that there is a familiarity in how human relationships are. There are many examples from religion to meritocracy....ideas are repeated ad nauseam. When it comes to immigration I think a comparison with the 18th century in regards to change is far off, which I appreciate and recognise is a point you make. I think we would have to go back to 1066 or the Romans for serious comparisons on impacts. In the immigration sense we only have to observe that outside Europe there has hardly been any significant change to demographics for thousands of years.....and where it did happen it was via war and genocide. Im not of the opinion that we are at the end of days either, because, at least in the uk's situation, we have much more sovereignty than we have been led to believe, which cannot be said for all the other countries in the euro. I wouldn't go so far as to suggest an 'end of days'. That said, I recognise that my commentary has been a bit glum....but that's because long term I'm not seeing the upside. Rather I would predict an 'end of era', which is already happening in real time due to demographical change and the continual march of social liberalism on society in the UK and parts of Europe. It is quite amusing to me how the working class have been duped into believing the rich though and blindly supporting them and the social elite blindly supporting the greens or labour and, with regards to the working class, it's because a pish english voice is seen to be associated with intelligence and competence. That is what i have seen 1st hand from my parents. They sent me to sort of posho schools to try and give me a better life than theirs. The problem is that i still ended up sounding like steve parish
If you're referring to voting outcomes, lets not forget that voters are given choices and very often it's a choice between a pig and an another fatter uglier pig. Originally posted by Jway89
So, im not totally down on the world, but i think the answer is education, discussion, moving towards a more inclusive and eventually direct democracy.
As for being more 'inclusive'....forgive me, but as a social conservative with a small c....I shudder everytime I hear that word, though I can see how it's relevant here.

One Labour and four independent candidates, so not sure what can be read into an Alderman election where total electorate is about 1600 and the winner got 260 votes.
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Conservatives unveil their immigration plans, on the face of it they seem reasonable. - EU citizens will no longer have preferential treatment I am fine with the theory this would deter low skilled foreign workers being subsidised by the taxpayer. If the companies that offer McJobs really need foreign workers they will have to up their wages and conditions.* *I assume that they will be exceptions to the above we need nurses and health care workers so provided that person stays in that sector I would exempt them from most of the above. Like policies this is all theory we will have to see how it works in practice but after we Brexit if this does not work we can change it or change the government. If labour get in , the super rich will bugger off with their money, to somewhere more amenable leaving the working class to fund the manifesto pledges.

Yep, it would be excuses and finger pointing and the same scenario that has played out with socialist governments everywhere else. To keep rich people in your country you need an incentive. The state of people teeth countrywide is terrible for some it's the cost for others it's the lack of an NHS dentist but for many it's pure ignorance. I had problems with my teeth when I was young so going to the NHS dentist every 6 months was a necessary evil and it became habitual. I still go every 6 months although I had to go private for lack of NHS dentists. I am amazed at the number of people who tell me they never visit a dentist in many cases it simply they because don't think they need to, until of course they do. Add into this the amount of sugar people now eat and it's no surprise that this is a health issue. Labour maybe onto something here we have to get people going to the dentists at least once a year. We also need more NHS dentists. So fair play to Labour they are trying something.

I don't see how election spending pledges happen with brexit. What would get my vote would be a brexit tax surcharge on incomes. Preferably to be paid by the people who voted for it, that is just. People in the UK, particularly over brexit, are selfish and never consider the detail or consequence of their actions. Make them pay. 'There is no such thing as a free lunch'.
