This post has been merged from a topic called 'Charlie Austin (rumour)' by james03 I believe that the club want to be careful and would ideally like to move out all the surplus players before signing Austin but I don't believe it absolutely has to happen to get our main transfer target. We haven't really invested anywhere other than the squad since coming up to the Premier League. Talk of new stadiums or renovating Selhurst are on the back burner and I don't think laying a new pitch and getting a new catering company to charge £7 for a terrible burger are putting the club in financial jeopardy. The one risk would be if we go down but I'm sure Parish can look at the table, even if only after 4 games and know with some confidence there are definitely 3 teams worse than us this season. And that's being pessimistic, there looks to be a lot more than 3. If we go a little crazy (not Simon Jordan levels) and throw 15 million at Austin without moving others on, it would mean a small dent in profit - but we'd still be well in the black from Premier League revenue. I'm sure if we can't offload Gayle and a couple of other loans in time, we'll still sign Austin and then spend all of January focussed on outgoings rather than incomings.

I know still at lot to do but takes time to sort out years of under-investment and neglect. But agree ref overpriced food and beverages, much the norm for all stadiums, plus need to sell and reduce wage bill before more players coming in.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Charlie Austin (rumour)' by james03 I don't know why everyone thinks 15m is such huge money for Austin. Van Wolfswinkel cost about 10m. Soldado cost 26m. Sergei Rebrov cost 11m and that was nearly 10 years ago. I know the out of contract thing is a factor, but if you're willing to pay 12m for a proven prem goalscorer, why not also pay 15m? It's not that huge a difference in today's money.

People keep saying Chamakh is no striker, but we changed his position in our first season up as we needed the link between midfield and (at the time) Jerome. Plus he banged in a hell of a lot of goals prior to moving to Arsenal. In fact I think he had the record (joint with Ronaldo) for most CL goals scored ina single season. I think he will stay at QPR at least until Jan. He's on huge wages and he can afford to see wherw they are in the table when the window opens again. He seems to want to stay in London so us and Spuds seem to be the only options. If Dwight goes today though things might change.
Chamakh is no stricker, we need to sign Austin or keep Gale
56 in 230 games for Bordeaux is that a hell of a lot of goals, in an inferior league, before he's injuries?

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Charlie Austin (rumour)' by james03 We were only going to sell him of we sold more players. We haven't so it's a case of go with what we've got which is actually not too bad.

There are no quotes in that article and i've never heard of that website. Surely BS? He'll either turn up later this evening or we didn't go for him but then all the papers will say we were rejected.
