Perhaps people should actually study slavery from its inception as history tells us.
But that wouldn’t allow what’s happening now I guess!

I'm sure you've studied it at great depth.

Drake was appalling but its over 500 years ago.

He was a slaver and pirate, the accolades to his heroics are balanced by his motives namely to pillage and plunder anything particularly Spanish that came in his way.

The 'circumnavigation' if it was actually that, was a piracy campaign.

The Spanish Armada is a huge propaganda exercise, the subsequent English Armada led by Drake was routed and Philip of Spain resumed his control of the seas.

It's remarkable that the English Armada does not appear anywhere, certainly not in any educational curriculum I only heard of it a couple of years ago.

I remember as a child standing proudly in front of Drake's statue with my Grandad on Plymouth Hoe.

I do not want false history, I prefer the truth about Drake and of course what he did, particularly as a slaver, is abhorrent but we have to consider the context of the times.

Left-wing parroters like you look down on ordinary people who have some respect for their country and its history. You see patriotism for your own country as the preserve of mythical, immigrant-hating Daily Mail readers. A love for one’s own country was and still is anathema to the left. The clown-car that the left has become are far more enamoured with other nations than their own – hence their unwavering patriotism for the EU.

No, as an example of how to convince a population to vote for something quite clearly self-harming.

It will make a fascinating case study one day when it can be talked about frankly, without tip-toeing around leavers' insecurities.

Or when those that voted leave can talk about it frankly, without being branded racists bigots ( see bbs).
I am not in the least insecure, but are you?

He probably knows that the slaves were initially captured by fellow Africans and sold on, ( watch the first episode of Roots) but this doesn’t suit though

In the Domesday Book in 1086, over 10% of the population of England were described as slaves.

Your Brexit soundbites are so far out of date it's hard to know where to go to be honest. The two contributions today are essentially

'The referendum has to be respected' and 'not all leavers are stupid/racist'

I feel like I'm back in 2018.

I'm glad you're not - it's certainly a common symptom being so concerned with what people they don't know think of them.

So Drake and his brother weren’t slave traders then?

Or maybe you just whooshed yourself…

Only a moron would judge people who lived hundreds of years ago by modern standards.

Contrast that with what many tolerate from people around today just so they look Woke.

Personally I couldn't give a toss if people who have been here five minutes, some of whom hate us, don't like our historical figures and I can't really understand why people like you do either.

You must hate yourself a lot.

I voted leave but, if we had voted to remain, rest assured, 6 years later I would not still be bleating about the result. I would have accepted it and moved on.

Yes, they are. The reality is, if Brexit had gone even 20% as well as the campaign promised, you wouldn't be remotely bothered what was being said on the BBS - but it hasn't, so there's a nagging desire to keep trying to convince yourself and others that it's going fine and exactly as expected all along.

The idea that talking about a massive political event a few years later means you somehow haven't 'accepted' it is just weird

Take any political topic which splits opinion in a significant way... topics like abortion, hunting, fracking etc.

People don't just campaign on it once, and if unsuccessful, decide 'ah well, I'll have to accept that and move on'

It's just yet another nonsense point that leavers have been told to parrot.
