I don't think he's referring to you Stirling. No, I didn't think so either.....I genuinely don't know what's occurred and the thread is so big now I'm almost scared to read it beyond the last few pages. I quite like Nick....Something must have rattled his cage. Edited by Stirlingsays (14 Aug 2015 3.19pm)
But there have been many, what I would call borderline racist comments appearing on this site.

I disagree, whilst I understand your sentiment, I personally feel that a xenophobic rhetoric towards the migrants and anti Muslim narrative are rearing their ugly heads more and more in the national vernacular.

Well some people make a racist thing out of it but most people are just concerned. I don't believe all Muslims are terrorists and I don't believe all immigrants are horrible people just coming here to milk the system, sadly groups like Britain First wade into the argument and make racist remarks, making anyone who brings the subject up look like extremists. There's always room for sensible debate on these subjects.

It's a golden age for genuine racists as they can be more open about it whilst the anti foreigner rhetoric continues. Edited by nickgusset (14 Aug 2015 8.39pm)

The current climate also allows some of those in the UK who do hold racist sentiments to dress them up in a smokescreen and seek to legitimise them by referring to "migrants" and "muslims".No doubt they would say that what they primarily have in mind when using such terms are WASP "migrants" and "muslims"

Of course it is possible to have a reasoned discussion about these topics, but there seems to be a dangerous acceptance of casual racism. When a national newspaper gives column space to someone dehumanising people in a serious plight labelling them as 'cockroaches' I think you have to question the trend. I think nicks post above is quite important, at the heart of it the issue with Calais is not an immigration issue, but a humanitarian crisis.

That implies that they are helpless victims which they are not. Every single one of them knows that they can claim asylum in France but does not want to. That is their choice.
