I see no real reason why a member of my family who supported Thatcher on a huge series of situations would have a reason to lie to me about what they saw that day no?

Well, I'm not going to call anyone a liar but I will say that from what I know about doing security in my youthful past I have a world weary perspective on it. Doing security at large gatherings basically means containing large groups of people and often stopping them from doing what they want to do.....I would just say that I have my doubts as too the one sided nature of the description given to you.

In situations of high stress there is rarely one side who are the innocent ones and bad apples on either side don't define whole sections.

The standards of behaviour for the Police are set far higher than they are for the public. Yet in my eyes each individual is responsible for their behaviour...And that's wearing a uniform and taking the state's coin or protesting and expressing your democratic rights.

I suspect that you will argue that the Guardian has an agenda as well and you are of course right but it does seem to corroborate what my Dad's cousin said pretty cohesively.

Taken from a left wing website so hardly a balanced viewpoint is it.

Also from reading it the writer seems to not understand much about how growth works.

Growth rates can't maintain high levels continually. As an economy gets larger and attains more wealth it will eventually slow down...'Productivity cannot continuously improve at the same rate'.

China and India know this and are seeing the same effect. They are starting to see that initial growth rate lower as they maximize out in certain sectors.

They have a long way to go yet but they will need to expand in different areas to get back to previous levels.

'The author, who did not want to be named'.

Says it all really.

Maybe there's some truth in it but what more is there to say. Unless someone is prepared to actually stand up and point fingers it remains unproven.

Are you suggesting the Mail has no political agenda?

Of course the Liberal Conspiracy website is coming from an angle - I didn't deny that. Are you saying the same about the Daily Mail? Seriously?

I would say that committed Conservative supporters like myself gravitate towards the 'Daily Mail' and 'Telegraph'.

Terrible shame. A great Prime Minister, and her death has certainly shown the true colours of a number of people on here. Celebrating the death of a very unwell old lady - unbelievable.

I have to agree.....there are some people on here that talk out their backsides and do NOT really know how much maggie did for this country and how she pulled us back from the brink when we were going down the pan due to strikes and nationalised companies that were dragging us down. Many on here that are old enough to have lived through the period she was Prime Minister will know that the unions had virtually taken over the mad house But she took them to task and beat them. Arthur Scargill was on the picket lines with the miners making them attack police and everyone that was not on their side...I know because I was backing the police with fellow marines on the picket lines. The miners got sucked into a situation that they did not really understand but followed that idiot Scargill who incidently got shunned by the unions some years ago due to lining his pockets and bumming accomodation costs through his union funds. He was a total waste of space and did more harm than good. At the time of the strikes coal was going out of fashion anyway due to health worries. in fact the "Green movement" started at that time and was the start of all the "Save the Planet brigade".
A lot of people on here do not really know just how much good maggie did for this country but instead harp on the things she did wrong...NO-ONE is perfect are they?
I would like to think that people on here who are not Conservative would show some respect for her just as Red Ed did yesterday instead of following like sheep and Slagging her off and having street parties.....its a sad thing for our country when people stoop that low and show their barbaric ways.
I have seensome really bad threads on the Holmsdale but this takes the biscuit!!!

I haven't always agreed with this gentleman but he has it summed up perfectly. New lows of barbaric nastiness from the Thatcher ghouls.

Hmm, well I know Cornish and Devon police who were shipped up in Yorkshire at the time who said everything was peaceful up there and the copppers were just talking to the police...then the Met Police aka Thatcher's personal guard, arrived and suddenly all hell broke loose. The cornish police put in a complaint about the Met Police's behaviour for it.

It was when THEY got up there as we had restored some sort of calm because the local police up there at that time had lost control...hence the reason WE had to go up!!

...because it's that simple.

Have they controlled for all the other variables, like, say, erm, I dunno, the fall of the Berlin wall? Invention of the internet? The performance of other economies over the last three and a bit decades?

Pantomime stuff.

the cost of the b#tches funeral is around the 8 million mark.

The rebate that Mrs Thatcher negotiated for this country has brought us so far £75BILLION and I believe that this puts money into perspective.

Edited by Willo (11 Apr 2013 2.15pm)

And how has this money been invested to rejuvenate the areas that suffered from pit closures?

Nick, a lot of money was invested in the following years to accomodate the miners who lost their job, BUt some were too ill (from coal dust) some refused to re train in some useful sort of work and some were too damm lazy and thought if they kicked up a bit of a fuss the mines would re-open.... They are still kicking today if the truth be known. Many people over the years have had to re-train and have made themselves a decent living. The unions at the moment are trying to re create the "Good old days" when they ran the country......But it wont happen as people have got wise to their way of doing things. We have been far better off since maggie killed the union power off!
