It’s possible to draw parallels between Wilf at Palace and Le Tissier at Southampton. Both ‘superstars’ at their respective clubs yet not deemed quite good enough for the elite clubs. Both capable of moments of brilliance other players could only dream of , but having flaws in their game or make up that make the top clubs think twice before biting. Emery supposedly had an interest in Zaha when at Arsenal and Silva when at Everton , but in truth the top clubs don’t appear to have ever really pursued him preferring to lavish high fees and wages on others. It’s been known for some time his contract was expiring, but even then the elite clubs have not bitten even without a transfer fee. There have been vague rumours about PSG but nothing concrete. I like Wilf and he’s made a terrific contribution to the club over a long period. However, the club appear to be indulging him and part of me wonders how others in the squad will view this indulgence - for all Wilf’s talent.

Pretty sure Le Tissier turned down approaches from Man U.

And Arsenal just preferred to pay 70 million for Pepe than 80 million for Wilf. Probaby not a good decision, in retrospect

That’s a brilliant comparison actually, I’ve never really thought about it, but you’re spot on. Both brilliant at times, but you’re also correct with the ‘flaws’ part, as in being a bit temperamental and drifting out of games for long periods, sometimes appearing lazy. I did like Le Tissier though, never seemed to score an ordinary goal, they were usually memorable.
