But yet the Lampard story (if true???) suggests at least one favourite was put off by the challenge. Actually, I don't think it is true. The Baggies are ready made but, more importantly, his longer term interests, in a market where job security is not a feature, are probably best served by creating a saviour reputation for getting them up and keeping them there for at least one season. Perhaps the Palace job requires someone more of the Southgate "root and branch" mould (but not him) who is happy to take on a major transformation job, one who thrives in a building site. Alternatively, another experienced holding manager while we cling on and continue to build slowly on our relative meagre resources. That is, Dyche. Personally I think Lampard needs to drop down a league and earn his stripes outside of the spotlight. He can get some quality young players on loan based on his reputation as a footballer which will have more chance of thriving in the Championship and WBA will have a good chance of bouncing back at the first attempt. He has no experience of what it takes to grind out results as a bottom-half PL team and if the papers are to be believed he might still have a bit to learn about man management. If he did end up coming here I wouldn't complain as he really is a rather unknown quantity, but I do think there are better options for a club in our position. If he doesn't come here the title of this thread will still be applicable anyway!

If the whole "he already has a job" thing is true. How would you feel about Mourinho? Edited by CPFCSteven (25 May 2021 11.01pm)
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

We shouldn't take anything literally, but you could see that '' next couple of weeks '' appointment to mean after the Championship play-offs...

Actually Galtier would appear to be a decent fit for Palace, given his track record of steering both St Etienne and Lille away from the relegation zone and, in Lille's case to second place and then the Ligue 1 title. He has also been praised for developing young talent at Lille and doesn't hop from one job to another - nearly 8 years at St Etienne and 4 at Lille. But no experience outside France, either as a player or manager .... Originally posted by chris123
I wonder if Christophe Galtier leaving Lille will set off a change reaction.

"In his first season, Galtier successfully guided ASSE to safety" School boy snickering aside, he could be a leftfield appointment. I imagine we'd be able to offer a higher salary than Lille, plus I also noticed he was actually an assistant coach at Portsmouth so he probably speaks English. Parish does seem to favour PL experience these days, but you never know.

To be honest that is where I'm thinking, it would be truly spectacularly bad succession planning if we haven't got a replacement lined up as Hodgson must have told them he is going for while back. To me that rules out Lampard as he has no job so could have been announced when Hodgson announced his decsion to go, Dyche could have been announced on Monday after Burnley season finished. That only leaves those still in a current role who still have something to play for so Cooper and Swansea. Off course it still leaves Pep and Tuchel in the frame? Has certainly done an incredible job at Lille since.

I'd hope they have an announcement soon with all the possible protracted contracts to sort out. Is Lampard still bound to Chelski ? July was mentioned for him, unless his contract is bought out.
